How popular is F1 in the states?

I'm wondering if anyone is following the 2021 season as it's probably the best season we've had in quite a while. I figure that WSO likely has a higher number of people following F1 than other communities out there.

I follow it, I wouldn’t call myself a die hard fan but I enjoy watching it. None of my friends are into it but one of the interns I worked was obsessed with it. Sadly, he’s the only other person I met who follows the sport.

I don't know anyone that watches it, but the Netflix show is really good imo.

Yeah seriously, an Indian buddy in college was really into it but I didn't really care about it, but then I watched the show and it just seemed interesting. I like that they trash talk about it seems more refined than American sports trash talking like something MJ would do.

I really want to go to a race track and rip cigs and drink my weight in Busch Light, that would be an amazing Saturday.

DTS completely changed the image. Cant find the article but read somewhere that it became the fastest growing sport in the US after the pandemic. Football has peaked in viewership and will still be number 1 but limited growth ahead. Baseball and basketball viewership has also stabilized. I think F1 can truly become a huge market in the US. If the powers to be can market it correctly, I see great potential here. However, the only issue is the race times in the US. For many of the races you have to wake up early and that's if you live on the East Coast, forget about the people in Cali trying to wake up for this. I believe this is the biggest obstacle here. Obviously it would also be very self centered for them to change race timings around the world just so us Americans can get a couple hours of fresh sleep.

Yeah, the race times are pretty bad for people in the US. If F1 gets bigger in America, I feel like they might shift towards race times more favourable towards the US, leaving east Asia in the uncomfortable spot

I find this funny and strange about Americans. They seem to only enjoy sports that them and only them are really good at, i.e. NFL, Basketball etc and dismiss everything else as boring or rubbish, but i’m convinced it’s because they are not good at those individual sports. I’m convinced if the US had no great tennis players too, they probably wouldn’t be into that sport also
