I hate Macs
I made the mistake of not getting a personal Windows computer and am currently suffering through a case study for a corp dev associate position without an alt key, shortcuts, or anything in the Microsoft Office suite that makes your life easier. I stg if you're not in graphic design these things are about as useful as a Chromebook. Please do yourself a favor and upgrade to a real laptop before recruiting season hits. Rant over.
You can reassign keys on mac or just use an external keyboard also.
In fact, it is generally a good idea to just have a mechanical keyboard for any computing device you are using.
But if you are using Windows products all the time, and want the natural UI of a windows machine and if that is the most comfortable to a user... yeah, better get a Windows laptop.
what is “stg”
Swear to god
I hate macs too - I’m never going to get one.
I bought the new MacBook Pro 14” and absolutely love it. I ended up purchasing Parallels which is a virtual Windows OS. It’s only like $100 and if you use an external keyboard (bonus points if it’s mechanical), it works flawlessly. You can even use Windows apps in tandem with your usual Mac apps.
Potentially huge, thank you. I'll have to check it out.
Do Excel and Powerpoint shortcuts work on Parallels the same way they do on Windows? I have a mechanical external keyboard, but I was confused about the shortcuts working as some of them could be assigned to Mac OS and might not work? Not sure, but would love more info.
^ This is one of the annoying parts about parallels. I’ve never tried reassigning keys but at least for me my external keyboard didn’t work natively with windows. Maybe potentially try bootcamp and see if that works?
Even Bootcamp (in case OP doesn't want to spend $100) would work like a charm with an external keyboard
True, but M1 Mac doesn't support bootcamp
What computer would you buy if you could do it all over again? $2500 budget.
I am currently looking for windows laptops and if that's the OS you want, I would probably consider Dell XPS 15 and Lenono Thinkpad X1. At $2500 you should be able to get i7 (i9 has heating problems on thinner laptops), 32GB ram, 1TB SSD. I assume you're not looking for gaming laptops and don't require much GPU power. I prefer gaming laptops just because of how well they handle heat which is a much bigger problem on Windows than M1 Macs.
I have a gaming laptop - the Lenovo Legion.
