I have no experience and am kinda screwed, what's the next step?
I mean, title says it all. Decided I wanted to go into finance around end of sophomore/beginning of junior year, and then immediately got struck with a ton of family and 'at home' issues. I had to work to help my mother with rent and didn't have the extra time for an internship. There was a brief period (a semester or so) where I wasn't working, but I was dazed and confused and didn't snag the opportunity. My GPA is also trash. Basically, I'm not qualified at all but I'm still determined to make it in.
What kind of jobs should I be searching for at this point? Really open to any advice at this point. I graduate this May and I'm kind of fucked. Looking to relocate to NYC so will be job hunting in that area.
Get a job in finance as a Financial Analyst at a F500 company. Work there for at least a year then apply for programs for people looking to change industries. May find one about diversity. (I'm assuming your hispanic from your username) you might want to look at diversity programs as well.

Isn’t almost all F500 looking for an financial analyst with FT experience or in CPA side?
Yeah pretty much better to take a FA role at a big Corp then a shoe salesman.

Would ideally like to be working towards getting a job as an analyst/associate in a HF or IB, but honestly my goals are hazy because it seems out of reach right now.
Massive world of difference between HF and IB, figure that out first.
You can always do something corporate for 4-5yrs, then MBA and transition into IB
What age / level of education are you? I was in a similar situation in college so happy to provide some help here where possible

It is difficult to help without knowing more details about your situation and goals. If you are interested in the buy side, you can take licensing exams such as the Series 65 exam or the CFA or CFP exams to show employers that you have discipline and a good work ethic.
Right, I realize that...if I'm being entirely honest, my direction is kind of fuzzy right now. Not really sure what specific direction I want to take. Kind of embarrassed about that. I'm currently studying for the series 7--would it be smarter to take the series 65?
No need to be embarrassed about direction. You are still young and have plenty of time to figure it out. Should I assume you have already passed the SIE. The majority of people who pursue the series 7 are in some type of financial advisor training program. You need to be sponsored to take the 7 while you do not need to be sponsored to take the 65. (Investment adviser representative exam) It depends on what you want to do. The 65 is probably a little more difficult than the 7
Sales if you're good at it. Lots of people who are good at sales had shoddy GPAs. But, its a special skill to always be closing.
