Ideas for Healthy Snacks
Lately, I've been getting tired of snacking on granola bars. I consume a variety of fruits throughout the day, so what I'm looking for here is some direct substitute for granola bars.
Any ideas on light and healthy snacks that you enjoy eating?
I bought a bag of clementine cuties and leave it in my drawer. Been a solid move so far.
That is a solid move.
Why are you eating all goddamn day like a squirrel
even I don't do that
Almonds and Kashi cereal
Like previously mentioned - fruit. I also keep some almonds at my desk, but the risk is eating 700 calories in a sitting. Also have a large bag of protein powder under my desk currently.
Don't eat half the bag at one time
Real big ballers eat TWINKIES and LAYS POTATO CHIPS
Keto is for pussies
Check out Frill icecream. Vegan icecream made purely from fruits, nuts and vegetables. High in fibre, only natural fruit sugars, no dairy.
that sounds fucking awful
You don't listen to food, you taste it :)
So you guys are just sitting in a desk all day eating sugar?
Buck up and stop eating snacks. It is better for your insulin sensitivity and overall health.
Yeah, this, holy shit most of you aren't even that active. You're going to regret that shit when you're getting alzheimer's at 65. It goes way deeper than weight. Go take your blood sugar. If it's above 90 at any point in the day, you need to change your diet and lifestyle.
Sugar is going to be our generations smoking.
Since moving and switching jobs I've really fallen off the wagon, but when I had a better routine I'd limit myself to an afternoon snack of a healthy protein/greens/misc shake.
I'm a pretty big eater, but with some discipline I got to where this worked pretty well for me.
(beef/bison/exotic) Jerky (make sure no added sugar) mixed nuts small carrots & bell peppers, various veggies w/salsa or hummus Quest bars are decent if you really need it
Stay away from fruit
Good list but I do not see how beef jerky would qualify as a healthful snack.
Depends on your goals. But, how is it not? Maybe if you eat a few pounds the sodium will get you.
For me, I would take beef jerky 100/100 over fruits
As already mentioned multiple times above... if you're snacking throughout the day you have a seriously bad habit. You need to quit that ASAP. You should eat 3 times a day, or as some people do, twice a day max. Snacks spike your insulin just like a meal but usually aren't even the kind of food you want to be consuming. Your WORST case scenario should be snacking on something like uncooked veggies, nuts like pistachios or pecans (avoid macadamia nuts for ex. and no trail mix BS)
To all of you gents out there not doing your annual physicals, go get that done. If your HA1C is over 5.5% and / or glucose over 99 mg/dl you are on a path STRAIGHT to diabetes. Be better.
4-5 small meals per day for me (3 food and 1-2 protein shakes) - all clean food with a focus on higher protein and lower fats. Carbs mostly come from sweet potatoes :)
Yeah. I tend to snack either right before my meal or right after as part of my meal. Only use it to juice up my caloric intake when eating rather than just discretionary eating.
There is a ton of research coming out that longer periods without ingesting any calories is much better than spreading them throughout the day. I'll choose to live a little in ways other than eating fucking rice cakes in the middle of the day.
I like the rice cakes. You think you are eating a lot but not really.
Current favorite snack is baby carrots and greek yogurt ranch dip. Take a container of plain non-fat greek yogurt and add a powdered ranch packet. Covers a lot of bases, protein, fiber, pro-biotics- plus it's low-cal and very satiating.
Would recommend shelled pistachios. Taste great and are easy to eat
I like to put in minimal effort for food so:
All of the above are about as easy as it gets, but the main key for me is having WAY too much water. It'll make you feel full much quicker.
PS get a good tasting protein powder. So many guys either buy the first powder they see or buy a terrible tasting one because it has 2g less of carbs. Just find a good tasting one and you'll find you actually eat it way more. (Vega's chocolate tastes damn good).
I'm a fan of wholesome food - freshmealplan.com is a great service and they offer smaller meals and customization based on your dietary needs
I take a half a banana, then cut it length wise to have a flat surface. Cover that with peanut butter, honey and cinnamon, tastes great.
stay the fk away from processed carbs and sugary snacks.
king size bag of unsalted almonds and a bag of clementines.
I'm a big fan of carrots. They are easy to eat, don't require any peeling, don't leave crumbs anywhere, and certainly good for you.
A few suggestions that have been helpful to me. First, someone above mentioned a shake. I have a 16oz smoothie every day and have half mid-morning and the other half mid-afternoon. The smoothie varies somewhat but generally consists of a banana, probably 2-3 cups of tightly packed baby spinach or kale, probably about a cup and a half of frozen blueberries, about a cup of frozen blackberries, two teaspoons of matcha, one or two tablespoons of ground flax seeds, about a 1 teaspoon of turmeric and several grinds of black pepper. (Note, this recipe makes 32oz, so basically two days worth of smoothies. Also, I say approximately for these things because I don't measure.)
Second, a few people mentioned various varieties of nuts. I would second that and say specifically walnuts. Walnuts are a good plant based source of Omega 3 fatty acids. Plus, they're easier on your teeth than almonds.
Third, chia seed pudding with some peanut butter. Make it the night before by soaking chia seeds in your preferred milk, put some peanut butter on it the morning of.
Random question - what do you use to make your shakes?
I had a juicer, but cleaning it was a bitch (and yield wasn't great). I've also tried a blender, but it never quite worked the way I'd like.
Also a tip, if you're using something strong like a juicer or a top notch blender I recommend some carrots. I dont really eat carrots, but carrot juice is a good/sweet base.
Yeah I use a blender. It's true, if it's not a quality blender it's a pain. I have a Cuisinart something or other model. If you have something like a Vitamix then you can blend pretty much anything, but those things are really expensive. The blender I have works well enough for these but I find a small coffee grinder to be more efficient for grinding the flax seeds beforehand. Carrots are a good idea. I'll have to give that a try.
Almonds, Bananas, Apple w/Peanut Butter, Dates, or Oatmeal w/fruit - my go-to snacks pre-dinner/pre-workout
I like to enjoy avocado toast prior to endeavoring on the on the latest sjw escapade. It's easy to handle with a megaphone in the other hand.
If I'm going to be standing in the street blocking traffic, nothing beats a kale smoothie since it's as easy to clean off the hood of an f150 as it is my wayfarers. If it gets in the beard it be stored for later consumption.
costo sized jar of mixed nuts, coffee and jerky and La Croix
Silver Bananas are the most prestigious and healthiest snacks that exist
also nori seaweed packs
I like the seaweed packs for a snack but I do not think they have much value.
