If you don't wear a mask and social distance, you're a reckless douchebag. Change my mind.

If you're not wearing a mask, you're what's wrong with America. You're the reason the country is still shut down.  You are  impulsive, you lack judgement, and are anti-science. You don't get 2 shits about the elderly or anyone outside of yourself. You don't have even the basic minimal patriotism to do the simple basic minimum to keep your fellow Americans safe from harm.

Beating COVID is NOT. THAT. DIFFICULT.  Dozens of backwards-ass nations have managed it. Literally all that is needed is for EVERYONE to band together and play like a team for a few weeks. If everyone masks up, then the virus dies off.  Conversely the only thing needed to keep the virus alive is for some small portion of the population to act like selfish dicks and NOT mask up (or worse yet gather in superspreader events) giving the virus a refuge to survive in.

The idiots keeping the virus alive are in the same bucket as anti-vaxxers; ignorant of science, basic hygiene, and how an animal herd works. To be frank, wearing masks does little to protect you.  You wear it to protect everyone else FROM you.  But if everyone starts be a team and we ALL wear masks, then the virus dies off very quickly.  Again - it's NOT that hard.

America is supposed to be the land of teamwork and patriotism. The Greatest Generation got together as a team and beat both the Nazis and the Japanese, and then put Communism on notice.  And while we teach kids to work together in sports from 4 years old, we as adults still can't get it together long enough to put a piece of cloth over our mouths?  And because of that, it's been 10 months since the outbreak and the US is leading the world in COVID cases and deaths. WTH man.

Many, many nations handled their business. America is #6 globally in terms of per-capita infections. And that's the number that matters, not the death rate. Death rate is ok, given that we have amazing doctors and nurses who have thrown themselves on the dumbass-grenades being hurled around by selfish maskless douchebags.  But in terms of infections? In terms of handling or not-handling business?  America is leading the charge at #6 out of some 200 nations!

COVID cases per capita

I seriously can't even. The world would be laughing at us, as our mask-denigrating bully of a POTUS got sick all while telling people it's patriotic NOT to mask up.  FFS, I can't even.

Where's the teamwork?  Where's the patriotism?  Where's the basic human decency not to kill off old people?  Where's at the very least the selfish desire to band together to get this thing beat so that we can all go back outside sometime?

People who have a different opinion are supposed to leave the country now? Hmm wonder where r u from or when was the last time for you to try fight and change something

I don’t find this bad. A city like Chicago needs to take more precautions than a random town in South Dakota. Waiting for the weakest link in the chain would destroy the economy completely. The constitution was written in such a way that the states have some autonomy to prevent a centralized authoritarian state. That said I think Trump should have worn masks more in public and led by example if not by policy. The video of the ACB celebration last Saturday made the GOP look like total idiots. I do wonder how Trump will change now that he has gotten Covid.

I hear what you are saying but I think given the magnitude of the crisis, a coordinated national effort would have been the appropriate move.  When this pandemic started, US citizens were making masks by cutting t-shirts including me.  The federal government did not take the virus all that seriously and a a result, the death toll has been much greater than it should have been.  I agree with the comments about republican senators and other people at the ACB gathering.  They all must either have room temperature IQs or their pride/machismo is clouding their judgement.  I do not think anything will change unless someone affiliated with the administration/congress dies.

This is way too long to consume, but I agree with the concept. People somehow have twisted themselves into being proud of flouting public health recommendations as if it makes them more patriotic. It is the weirdest thing I have seen in my life. It is absolutely scary. Not as scary as the the anarchists that frequent BLM demonstrations, but it is scary indeed.

At least in NYC, the majority of protesters wore masks. And NYC reported no increase in COVID as a result of the protests when they were in full force through June and July.

So for one, De Blasio told Covid contract tracers not to ask positive cases if they’d attended BLM protests. Early on before the protests even started NYC forced nursing homes to admit COVID positive patients and now seems to be beating around the bush with regard to releasing an accurate record of how many deaths that decision caused. So excuse me if I don't completely take their account at face value when we already know for a fact they have at least 2x the number dead of the next highest state in terms of total fatalities.

Just because there was no reported increase doesn't mean there wasn't one. But it is worth noting that the majority of people taking part in protests I'd safely bet are under the age of 70 (can't say as much for the nursing homes sadly), so they would have a >99% survival rate even if they did contract it.

I remember when I was told I couldn’t gather in groups at all due to “science”. Businesses had to be closed or operating at extremely limited capacity due to “science”. Religious services went out the door. People that like myself who put our lives on hold to follow the laws were mocked when thousand person protests were allowed to go. It was a slap in the face to small business owners. The case numbers not changing only makes it seem even more that such restrictions were political and put in bad faith. People also seem to have forgotten that Fauci told Americans not to wear a mask. I remember at the time calling BS and saying to my family that Fauci and the CDC was covering up a lack of masks. Turns out a few months later I was right. Fauci our head “scientist” lied to the American people so that there wouldn’t be a shortage. Who asked him to involve himself in supply chain issues? He’s supposed to communicate to the American people the severity of the disease. The media however has quietly ignored this fact and thrown the blame on Trump. Now the same “science” people are turning into anti-vaxxers simply because Trump is pushing for a vaccine. Mind you Fauci has repeatedly reiterated that there is specific protocol in place to ensure safety and that vaccine approval will not be politicized. But that doesn’t matter even to the people who did regard Fauci. He’s a doctor so long as what he says goes along with the agenda of keeping the country locked down to oblivion.  Otherwise, ignore what he said.

Now don’t get me wrong. I wear a mask and try to social distance (admittedly not always feasible) still because I have enough common sense to comprehend how a virus would spread. But I’m not going to call the average uneducated American a selfish brat. I wholeheartedly disagree with what they’re doing, but realized that science has been made a complete mockery of. Both the left and GOP are at fault in their own ways. Realized I criticized the left more above s now GOP time. I was completely disappointed with the ABC rose garden celebration . That too was reckless and a slap to the face. These people are supposedly intelligent senators. They should be smart enough to know how viruses spread. I hold a higher standard to them than the average uneducated American.

Masks undoubtedly help, but social distancing is also necessary if you want to see a significant steep drop in cases. I mention this in a reply above as well. The typical cloth mask has holes large enough that some COVID can pass through. N95 masks are the .best at preventing COVID from entering (still not perfect) but are difficult to wear for extended periods of time.

Additionally, it is important that people know how to handle a mask properly. Reusing the same mask without proper sterilization or poor handling of masks while wearing it could actually lead to a higher chance of getting COVID.

This global tragedy/debacle of sorts has shined a light on a lot of people’s character. I could never even imagine holding the mentality of “purge the sick and old” that many proudly spew.

It wouldn’t kill you to wear a mask. It won’t kill you to watch the Yankees game on TV. Not going out to bars (and then running errands the next day) isn’t going to kill you either. I’m sorry your vacation plans got cancelled, but please stop for one second and think of others beyond yourself other than being, for lack of better wording, an entitled fucking asshole.

I have elderly parents, a goddaughter with type I diabetes, a close friend with cancer who is scared of going to their doctor’s appointments. I do not think of any of them as drains on society who deserve to die and the last one is someone whose butthole a lot of of the interns on this site would be sniffing with fervor if given a chance.

This won’t kill you but your careless actions and blasé attitudes could very well kill a lot of others, many of whom had no say in being high risk. I truly wonder how some of you must have been raised and worry even more for the future for when you raise your own children to be devoid of empathy and integrity.
