Nonpog, I know what you mean. I'm really happy to see military folks on this site. I think we as vets have a lot to offer; I'm talking work ethic, team player, and the whole nine yards. Are you actively recruiting at this time?

^^^^^ cphbravo96, I was wondering what your thoughts were on transitioning from IB to PE as a vet --if you have gone through this process. This is the rub, a lot of times I think we as vets who were enlisted in the military before completing our undergrad are at a disadvantage when it comes to IB recruiting because we tend to be older than the typical first year analyst. So, it makes sense to think of PE recruiting in the same light. Have you had any problems with age in your recruiting process? Also, what's your take on age and b-school admission? Thanks!

Graduating from non-target state school in May. Looking at b-school for the fall.

I used the official GMAT study guide. I took the short practice test in the book to identify strengths and weaknesses. I used that to identify where I could create the biggest impact. Before working on my weakest parts, I focused on the parts that I could increase with less work. Once those areas were solid, I looked at my weaker parts. After working 20-30 problems in each area and studying the answers (especially why the wrong answers are wrong), I took the first of the 2 downloadable practice tests from mba.com. I worked a lot more problems using the same method as above. A few days before the exam I took the second practice test.

If you're planning on taking it this summer, don't wait until the last minute to start studying. The downloadable practice tests are very helpful as they replicate the testing environment. Good luck with you IBD position this summer and enjoy your final semester. How rigorous is this semester for you?

I noticed some posts earlier refering to enlisted vs. officer status in banking. Let me tell you, virtually everybody I networked with was an officer and they did not look down on me at all for being enlisted. they bent over backwards to help me and I will be an SA this summer with a BB due to some of their help.

Im an officer in the navy, and I'm looking to a career in S&T when I get out in probably 3 years. I'm a hornet pilot, and I'm debating an MBA with the new GI bill, or trying to make the jump immediatley into S&T. I went to a small state school (VMI), and I have no connections to the street, so I have a lot of ground to make up.

Thanks, ant. Deciding right now between CBS, Booth, and MIT (leaning towards CBS). Haven't heard back yet from Wharton/HBS. Where would you guys go?

Wow, that's awesome. I would be very happy if I got into any of those schools, you really can't go wrong with any of them. That being said, I would love to attend H/S, and if I don't get either one then CBS/Wharton would be my second choice. As it stands I would probably lean towards CBS as well if I were in your shoes because I love their Value Investment Program. But if you get into either Wharton or HBS it will be hard for you to turn them down for CBS. What do you want to do after b-school?

Looking to do investment banking, then PE a bit later on. You're right, it's hard to go wrong with CBS (great finance program, right in NYC), but Wharton/HBS would definitely take the cake. I'll find out shortly!

I'm a former 11B, spent 4 years with the 75th Ranger Regiment -- finished up as a CPL. I'm currently a sophomore at Texas A&M studying finance, hoping to break into PE immediately after I graduate (I know -- a long shot, but I don't care). I'm currently working as a real estate agent while going to school. I have a 3.9 GPA, and will be looking for a summer internship for next year (hopefully I can find something in PE, but will be shooting for banking as well).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Former USMC 0311, '95 - '99. Got tired of sleeping in the dirt and field days every Thursday until 1am. So I joined the Army. Served as a Paralegal in the Army for five years. Damn straight it was a skate job (minus the OIF part).

New to the forum. I'm USAF 2002-2007 Security Forces Enlisted, earned a degree from Penn State with double Finance/Accounting. I ended up taking a position with one of the major oil companies in Houston and am currently going through their leadership development program. Current rotation has me working on a deal-team of some fast paced energy deals. Still looking to break into IB when I get some more experience. I specialize in the Power Market with focus on REPs.

Penn State undergrad, also have an MSc in Finance, quant emphasis. Currently deployed to Afghanistan. Having been deployed for the greater part of the last 2 years, am looking to transition into trading by early 2012. Primarily interested in Commodities, FX, or Options trading. Have posted on this site since probably 2006 but with deployements have been less involved the last 2 years. I am hoping to reestablish connections with Traders/Ex-military here on the board.

Graduating with a MSEE from a sorta-semi-target in missouri.

Looking for prop trading/market making. Anyone have any some ideas where to go? I've made it to a few superdays with the big players in Chicago that target my school, but keep getting dinged(Harvard/MIT kids are incredibly hard to beat).

Good to see some other vets here. I got out of the Army a little over a year ago as a 94H staff sergeant. Not many people are familiar with us, but I'd be glad to indulge you if you're interested. Aside from that, I was stationed at Ft. Stewart my entire enlistment aside from fifteen months in Mosul. Now I'm a senior at the University of Alabama in Huntsville studying corporate finance and am working feverishly trying to break into i-banking.
