These kinds of kids are giving Europe such a bad name. We're already getting outcompeted on comp by the US, and now we're publicly making ourselves look like complete wet wipes (As seen by the UK LinkedIn cringe post last month)

More firms should do what PJT London does. I.e. host networking dinners at various unis which essentially act as a first round HV personality screen.

As an American, just speaking from experience by folks I've brushed shoulders with over the years, I'm going to respectfully disagree with you that we absolutely don't have a leg up on screening out these types of folks. Just going to leave it at that.

Unfortunately this is just the type of person that our industry attracts, as our industry attracts the most cringy, narcisstic, greedy individuals who unapologetically self-promote in the most cringy manner possible while kicking aside anyone who gets in their way. What's worse is that the worst ones are generally the ones who rise to the top and set the culture.

To add on to the previous guy, heads like that def exist a lot in America as well. Tbh I think people at least in the incoming SA wise can be put into 3 groups in the States.

1) The socially awkward kid - not much explanation needed here
2) Kevin Durants (For my dawgs in Europe this p much just means the kid is a snake/fake) - Usually smart but unfortunately can never be genuine and very easy to tell they are manipulative. Only there cause they want to use you and will never have a genuine convo with the dude.
3) normal human being - I don’t mean someone average. Someone who is smart and is just a good person/influence to be around.

Obv there are exceptions, and unfortunately at least at the major banks, most kids fall into categories 1 or 2. However keep in mind this is my view of the most recent recruiting class for summer 2025 SA. Can’t really do anything about it.

Hahaha I saw that yesterday and saw the title of this thread and thought I bet that's this post.

Kids linkedin is full of posts like that. Tbh I have a feeling this thread will end up in the next post.

Funniest

I think you missed the memo, but he's going to Australia. Far away from this inexorable hardship. Far away from being made fun of. Far away from trauma. And hopefully far away from the LinkedIn post button

Only just noticed there's only 1 vote for 'Low' cringe level btw. He's probably seen it 😭😭

Pretty sure the same kid posted a selfie of him crying on a train too and churned out a story about resilience. Imagine being sat near some uni student mid-breakdown and watching him pull up a camera to take a selfie hahah

Yeah exactly, the person clearly has problems and doesn’t deserve even more stress because of this. Mods please take this down.
