Is Uptown Charlotte safe to live in?

I’ll be moving from New York to Charlotte for a lateral opportunity. As a 24-year-old female, would it be safe living in Uptown Charlotte? I just want to minimize my commute time as much as possible but obviously don’t want to live in a sketchy place. How is Uptown at night?

Uptown is fine, but overall just avoid walking around at night by yourself late in the night. South end is good if you work for wells, NODA or 1st ward is good if you work for Truist or the other reputable MM in uptown, since it work be closer to you, you can just ride the light rail. Overall Charlotte is fine, probably safer than New York as someone who grew up in NYC.

If working at wells, would living in the fourth ward be good? Would an Uber driver even pick me up if I am working late in the office (given the short distance between the office and the fourth ward)

If working at Wells then you have a bigger problem to worry about. Kidding aside, I don't see people uber in Charlotte much. I don't think people work past 8pm in the office, most folks seem to be wfh during the night. Therefore, I can't speak to the whole uber situation. Assuming you're buying then you're better off looking in 3rd ward, if renting I will stick to somewhere close by to office or southend. You make enough assuming you're in IB.

Yes, true uptown is very safe. The only sketchy parts of Charlotte are on the outskirts of uptown (past South End). Especially compared to NYC, I think uptown is a safe bet

The southern half of Uptown towards southend is very safe if you are a female. I would not recommend anything towards the north part of uptown especially if you want to walk. I have heard some uncomfortable stories.

I think no matter what area you live in it will not be safe at night, especially for a girl who will be walking alone. It depends on you and your safety. Think about installing a video intercom system at your new place of residence, because I heard that there are often break-ins in residential areas and through this intercom system you will be able to secure your place.

I live in the First Ward in Uptown, it is safe. If you are worried about safety find one of the high rises in Uptown that have 24 hour concierge such as the Vue and live there. I Uber regularly in uptown and you will have no issue finding a ride home if needed. I relocated here from living in downtown Chicago and would say I feel safe here and my girlfriend does as well when she goes out alone. You will be perfectly fine. Like others have said, avoid walking alone late at night and there is no reason to worry.
