Laid off, what to do now?

Hey Monkeys,

Just out here looking for some advice. Was laid off a couple of months ago after having done a sell-side gig for a couple of years and currently thinking about all of my options. As of now, I've been applying to many roles trying to get back on track. I've been steering more towards corporate roles (IR, Corp Fin, Corp Dev/Strat, etc) partially because I feel like the setback to my record within the financial services industry has been a bit tarnished (is this the wrong way to think of it?).

Should I just go to b-school if I can't get myself back into the game? However, one of my main issues there is I don't think I can get recommendations with my prior employer (relationships with prior manager did not end so well). The prior manager before that has left the firm and I'd not maintained connections with him/her. Any thoughts as to what I should do? And if you were ever laid off, what're some things you've spent time doing and what type of skills did you learn before getting back on track? Any thoughts appreciated, thanks.

this thread is useless if we don't know your financial situation. do you have a cushion? if so, how many months/years can you sustain yourself?

assuming you have some $ in the bank, I'd just take a few years off and travel. move to the south of France / Switzerland, buy a car while you're there. learn to ski, new hobbies, etc.

"money is (essentially) unlimited. time, is not". my grandpa told me that before he died.
it's really true.
