Late to work!
WSO,
What happens if you come late to work? Last week I was late every single day and my boss mocked me in front of my co-workers.
Today, I was late like 5 mins and I f*cking run in her at the cooler. She said she would right me up next time and after 3 strikes I'll get terminated. FML.
Have you ever been late to work? Did your boss catch you?
I am thinking of winding up all clocks 5 mins in the office. I am pissed as fuck.
why were you late?
cuz i am a lazy motherfucker, plus traffic in California sucks balls
sounds like an intrinsic lack of motivation. Are you sure this job is what you want to do ?
CA traffic def sucks. Never seen traffic james on midnight on a Tuesday.

Buy a motorcycle and split lanes.
No excuses. Play like a champion.
BOSS !
ekimlacks's advice is actually quite legit. I first learned how to drive a motorcycle just to get to work in Manhattan. Play like a BOSS!
So you're pissed because you're lazy?
haha yes, pretty angry w/ myself atm
Unless you're on a trading floor or something similarly time-sensitive, sounds like a horrible job and boss to begin with.
.
Your boss seems like a jerk. Since there are no operational aspects of my subordinates jobs where they need to get time sensitive reports finished, I really don't watch the clock on my team. If I find that they are consistently coming in late and leaving early or taking excessively long lunches, I usually have a talk with them but that's about it. But I don't consider 5 minutes late. 30 minutes, definitely.
With that said, there is absolutely no excuse to be late consistently the way you're describing. Rather than adjusting the clocks in your office, I suggest you wake up 10 minutes earlier every day.
You gotta get to work on time, bro. The day isn't gonna fuck itself up.
some god damn fresh quotes right thur
Theres no reason to be late like that. Wake up earlier, suck it up, and get there early. if your boss has a problem with you being late you know what you should do? not be late.
Get to work 10 minutes early or find another job. Unless you are missing meetings or an hourly employee, I see no reason why you need to be micro managed. Especially if you are working until late at night. Who fucking cares.
Your name says it all. Too bad thats not how life works.
It's called an "alarm clock". Look into it.
Dah whistles go whoo-whoo!!!!
"It's like an alarm clock - whoo whoo!!"
I probably fire you too. You can wake up 10 minutes earlier and get to work on time.
Fuck being on time, I'm always 30 minutes early to work
If you're early, you're on time. If you're on time, you're late.
and if you're late, you're dead
Your mom was late the other week, that sure was a scare for us.
This is one of the many reasons working for the government is a pretty sweet gig. You can show up and leave pretty much whenever you want.
ppl i have a history of early morning fucks ups. Actually I have an alarm clock GentlemanJack. I set my alarm on my iphone and this $10 clock i got from walmart. What i need is an alarm clock that slaps me across the face. And when I press snooze it punches me in the nuts. In school i used to miss all my early morning classes, i couldn't care less but now this shit has bitten me in my ass. My boss is cool, but the bitch needs to chill out. This ain't wallstreet i'm selling software i mean geez, but I agree w/ her.
Any good alarm clock recommendations? Anyone use http://jawbone.com/up i hear it gently wakes you up when you are not in your REM sleep. I think I tend to dream about tits and ass between 5am-7am. When I should be getting ready for work.
Since you have an iPhone, trying one of the puzzle alarm clock apps. Example: http://www.macworld.com/appguide/app.html?id=111408&expand=false
Offers random alarm sounds and types. You're basically required then to solve some kind of puzzle before the alarm shuts off, aka no snooze.
knowing me, my ears will shut off as my subconscious mind doesn't want to solve the puzzle. I think my problem is actually an opportunity. Opportunity for sound sleepers all over the world. I need to make an alarm clock which recreates Hiroshima everyday in the morning.
Written up for being late? Ouch. Seems excessively harsh, but then again you need to earn the ability to show up at work a few minutes late.
But hey, they make the rules so get there on time dude!!
Unless you're in the markets or late/missing meetings it really shouldn't matter that much. The fact that it matters is the larger problem.
I've had 2 analysts report to me in our F500 development program. The first one was usually in around 9 (I'm in between 8 and 830). The guy was awesome and I never had any issues with him. the work always got done and he did an awesome job. Now I have a girl who is in around 9-915 and it bugs me. Realistically I don't care if someone comes in at that time, but the rest of her work isn't great so I'm annoyed. Her coming in a little later is an easy thing to bitch about when her overall performance is only average.
If there's a superstar on my team that can't come in until 10 I'd generally be ok with that as long as their work gets done (with the obvious exception of meetings or busy periods).
The problem here is most likely that you're an average and employee and that you're not getting to work on time (which probably appears that you're lacking motivation).
That being said - get your ass up. I hate mornings too, so I have to treat my alarm like a fucking fire alarm. If I hit snooze instead of jumping out of bed I'm in for a long morning.
I agree with your superstar theory. She thinks I cant do the work even though its shit easy (this aint ibanking bitch!, and i have interned at an ib fyi) and I really don't know why she has this perception. I am far from an average corporate slave sir. I am a good slave. I work hard, stay late and am pretty much on my shit. Why she doesn't like me, Idk and frankly i don't care its her problem. But yea i need to get my ass in on time.
If you get 'written up' 3 time for being late you get fired? Do you work at Wal Mart?
You should be written up for your spelling of "right"...
Lazy...
I work my gov't job and a part time gig and volunteer at two different organizations and work out hard core and starting in january will be back in school... there is no excuses for your behaviour... i got it so good now that I tell myself I want to wake up 07:00 after coming in at 00:30 - 02:00 and by 06:55 im waking up before the alarms on my android start going off
since you have a shitty iPhone, like my girl, i know for a fact that there is a very loud buzzer sound that will work wonders for some one like you... sounds like a submarine alarm sound... set up an alarm to go off once every 2 mins for a 30 min window in the morning an hour (or however long it takes to get ready) before you go to work and make it repeat every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday... I'm sure you wont have an issue waking up after dreaming about tits and ass
stop being a pussy footed loser and get it together
Become a responsible adult and get to work on time.
this is kind of pathetic. if you can't at the very least get to work on time, how is your boss supposed to trust you with anything significant? even if you are killing it at work, it ruins co-worker morale when someone is allowed to waltz in whenever. getting your work done is all i really care about but think about it from your manager's perspective who has deal with everyone else.
they ain't trippin off the flo masters
I can tell you now it's not about the 5 minutes later every fucking day. It is the demonstration of your lack of responsibility and respect for your job and your boss. You can think you are great at slaving or whatever it is, but you are not because your boss is mocking you and gave you an ultimatum.
You need to evaluate if you want this job or not.
fucking deep bro
Set this 10 minutes early. http://sonicalert.com/products-alarm-clocks-SBB500ss.html
Guaranteed you wont be late
Sleep is for the dead and poor.
I always come in 10-15 min early and the few times I knew I was going to be late, I sent my boss a short email letting him know.
As for alarm clocks, the more annoying an alarm sound is the harder it is to wake up. So I've always used the radio instead.

Some interesting alarm clocks. I also saw one that flies one of those little toy helicopters around and won't shut off until you catch it.
If you have trouble getting up, instead of just trying to wake up earlier or getting something more persuasive to wake you up, you should look into why you aren't feeling rested in the morning. You could possibly even have sleep apnea which would prevent you from getting healthy sleep. I struggle to wake up in the mornings (especially finals weeks like this after late night studying) but I've found sleeping with earplugs helps a lot (even though there usually isn't any specific reason for them) and I get a much deeper sleep.
My real problem isn't early mornings, it's staying awake and focused in the afternoon. It probably doesn't help that I'm slightly allergic to caffeine and haven't drank a drop of coffee in my life. Anyone know any healthy ways to boost energy?
wish i had a sexy gf to wake me up with a morning bj...ahhhhh..anyways...i dont think i have any medical condition...when i try to waking up to a song i get pumped...on way buying a new ipod dock
addressing your situation if you cant drink caffeine. I would suggest eating an apple.."the glucose in the apple, and digesting it helps the body to wake up, and stabilize its blood sugar levels." Also, if you hit the gym or do an aerobic exercise you will see an increase in your overall energy levels. Cold showers work like a charm, but i hate em'. I usually crank the music so loud that my neighbors start banging on the walls. Pumps me up! So I would suggest eat apples, drink lots of water and exercise. I dont go for energy shits.
this will do the job
When this song came on at the dead of night during boot camp. You knew that day would suck. Also got the fuck out of bed before the instructors raped you.
Just get yourself a sound system you can hook your mp3 player on, put that song on and set the time. Works 10 out of 10 times unless you're not sleeping in your own bed.
I love this album!!! Man if I had SB's I would give you all :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yuQZvs34C0&feature=related "i wanna slit your throat and fuck the wound" - classic
I'm not stopping you from buying SBs so they can rain over me like R.Kelly pissing on underage girls.
The Iowa album is by far the best I've heard from Slipknot. You should also check out some of the earlier work from Dimmu Borgir if you need to wake up fast.
hahah aint throwing money on SB's when i can throw em in the strip club at boobies. yea man iowa and the self titled album were amazing, i also enjoyed subliminal verses as rick rubin def. brought something unique to the table. Haha found this;
"Ross (Robinson) is insane! Once, when we were recording here, he threw a potted plant at me. It exploded on the wall over my head and the dirt went in my mouth. It was awesome." -Joey Jordison
your boss doesn't like you because you act like an entitled fuck who thinks he is owed a job on wall st.
Try to get in a half hour earlier than you do now. If its a 9:00 start, get there at 8:30. Start this tomorrow. Then when you are "late" or sleep in, you are still early, or on time in the worst case. This will get you brownie points. If you are on the clock and out at 6 (or whatever) sharp, count your lucky stars, because I would kill a man to have a job at my same salary where I could just leave every day at a set time.
Put yourself in your bosses' shoes. Consistency and reliability are worth more to them than hitting higher high notes but not being able to depend on them. I was promoted at my last company over another guy that was way smarter and harder working than me. But when it came down to crunch time, I was in my chair every morning at 8 am like clockwork, while he would often come in at 10, or work from home after pulling a 3AMer. When the boss needs a question answered, and can't count on you being around to answer it, he/she isn't happy.
Is this now a slipknot thread?
I find that when I'm consistently late, it's less about being late and more a sub-conscious block about wanting to be there in the first place. You may be trying to secretly sabotage yourself because you hate your job - reading your posts it sounds like it sucks. No offense.
none taken homie...yea its not amazing but after going through all the responses it made me realize that i'm fortunate to have a job...attitude is everything in life and i have to keep my morale up..we all do :)
p.s you have a deeper way of looking things and thats pretty rare
I once came in on time at 7:30, I would have come in earlier, but my gf wanted morning sex and by the time I checked futures, there was no way I was making it in any earlier. I get in, and of course this is the day that news comes out that the earthquake in Japan has in fact done damage to nuclear reactors. Everybody else on the team was in at 6:45. FML.
Our late policy: More than ten minutes late, bottle of alcohol for the team (nothing below USD 100). Late two days in a row, bottle of alcohol for the team Late three days in a row, bottle of bollinger
We figure something will give eventually.
hahhaa i love it, i think this is a better strategy than being a passive aggressive boss
I used to get always at the beginning of my internship around half an hour to an hour earlier, but at some point somebody just told me to stop comming so early, so I started getting there from half an hour to an hour later, but that was because everybody arrived from 9 to 10. The most important thing was that I always did my job perfect and fast, so I could afford to arrive later when workload was less, but never was I asked something and didnt have it, in fact I kept asking for deals until there was nothing they could give me for a week and had to help a girl with her modeling (she didnt like it a bit, dont do it yourself!). It was though no M&A and I started working in Germany, so I catched some of that way of working, which was quite different from how the french do it. In any case my advise would be in rome do as the romans, if they all arive on time, you have to either do it too or search for another job.
Am I retarded or is everything bold on this thread?
Youre retarded!
No its is all BOLD
in my firm people that show up early actually get abused..its standard to show up 5 min late...not very good for getting stuff done, but definitely less stressful
1) Your job sucks
2) You suck
3) Your boss sucks
Your boss really has nothing better to do than micromanage you? 5-10 minutes isn't late, it is tardy. Especially when you have nothing scheduled. If you miss a meeting that is one thing, but this sounds like McDonalds. You also have no fucking excuse. Your boss sucks, but you still collect the pay check. Get there on time or quit.
Personally, I would say quit. That is if you are a baller like you are representing. If not, then you are being pretty cavalier about a J O B you actually need.
When I was doing BO garbage I had a boss who would monitor my coming and going like a hawk. I'm talking we had to physically pen in our time we got in. I'd come in 2-3-4 minutes late and some days I would be 5-10 minutes early. He dinged me for the late and ignored the early. Also didn't appreciate me working through my lunch.
Yeah, I quit that place. I'd advise you to do the same.
Entering workplace late (Originally Posted: 06/05/2010)
This is for those of you who have entered or are entering the workplace later than is "usual". I'm 23 now, will be 26 when I graduate and was wondering a few things:
1) What industry you are going into? 2) Were the people more/less receptive of you when applying for jobs because you were older? 3) How did your younger co-workers treat you compared to others? 4) Were you treated differently by your superiors that were around your age?
I'm really just kind of curious as to how people who went into higher end jobs (IB, MC, HF, PE, etc) thought age affected things. For less prestigious jobs I've noticed nobody really cares.
Thanks in advance for the insight.
