LinkedIn Rant

Why tf do these mfs in banking not accept your connection requests? And just by sheer luck if they do accept your request, they fucking ghost you. I’m a guy and trust me it’s easier to get to the talking stage w chicks on dating apps compared to these fucking excel placeholder parrots. I have fucking 216 sent (unaccepted) LinkedIn connection requests. Barely anyone replied too. At this point LinkedIn thinks I’m hiring 😭. To all the people who didn’t accept my connection request and/or ghosted my texts I hope you have to chase me one day to invest in my company and you’ll see who ghosts whom then. This marks the end of my rant. Thanks for partaking in this meaningful discussion. Love ya!

People are genuinely busy in a lot of instances just trying to manage their own workload. Also - if people have had no sort of professional interaction with you, I do not see why it is not within their right to not connect. Understand the sentiment to an extent as I went through the networking process for banking, but no need to take it personally

Why would I connect with somebody I don’t know? This isn’t an instagram follower count, I don’t give a fuck about getting more likes on my semiannual reposts of deal announcements.

During recruiting, I didn’t connect with most people I had coffee chats with, even if they went well. As a junior (in undergrad, not the workforce), I had nothing to contribute to a banker I “connected” with. So until I myself got into the workforce, I didn’t connect with these people who have everything to give and nothing to gain by speaking with me. Think about the two-way street any relationship is.

It’s not personal. They have lives and they probably have 50+ LinkedIn requests that they go through in addition to the cold emails that they get. If you really want to stand out, try to network within the bank and get a formal intro there. That can be done through your alumni.

I empathize with students which is I answer cold emails, but I get so caught up in my life that there’s too many to handle.

Also, try not to just send LinkedIn messages. Personalize an email and make yourself standout. Mention their background, cater to their journey, get them in a position to talk about themselves. People love to talk about themselves.

Hope this helps

Problem with LinkedIn is that everyone uses it and I get bombarded with 3-4 requests everyday and I'm not even in IB. idk if its just me but most of the weird calls I had were people who initially contacted me via linkedin.

Try emailing or having a mutual connection introduce you. 1 solid contact can turn into 30 if you look in the right places. You’re much more likely to have a meaningful conversation with an Alumni or mutual connection.

Also try shooting out requests around 12:00pm - 1:30pm, this may seem goofy but I’ve noticed a much better hit rate during lunch hours.

If you really wanna get crazy, hit up your local EastBank, Equinox, or elite gym. Even hanging around coffee shops in financial districts, or attending meet ups for young professionals. This is old school, but it works.

Only takes one good lead to land a great job.

Look man, some people won't want to accept your LinkedIn request bc they have no idea who you are

Who are you to expect others to accept your request as an undergrad with no work experience, no skills, just a ton of stupid questions that anyone could answer from quickly googling or browsing WSO?

Why not just send emails to their work email instead? If you're an undergrad, you shouldn't be sending Linkedin invites to random people
