Based on the most helpful WSO content, living alone in Manhattan can be quite expensive. Here's a breakdown:

  1. Rent Costs:

    • A decent 1-bedroom apartment in Manhattan typically costs $3,000 to $4,000 per month.
    • Studios in areas like the Financial District or Greenwich Village also average around $3,000 per month.
  2. Salary Considerations:

    • As a first-year IB analyst, your base salary might be around $85,000, which translates to approximately $4,500 per month after taxes.
    • Spending more than 60% of your monthly salary on rent is generally discouraged. This means you might want to consider a studio or look into slightly cheaper neighborhoods like Long Island City (LIC) or Brooklyn, which offer lower costs while still being close to Manhattan.
  3. Lifestyle Adjustments:

    • If you're aiming to save money, consider leading a more Spartan lifestyle. Analysts often save around $1,000 per month by keeping expenses like utilities, meals, and entertainment in check.
  4. Long-Term Perspective:

    • Many professionals recommend having roommates for the first 2-3 years to save money and build a social network. However, if you're set on living alone, ensure your rent doesn't exceed 30%-40% of your net salary to maintain financial stability.

Don't really know anyone in a newer 1br in a good location making less than 225k-ish or getting help from parents.
