Living with a coworker?

Starting as an associate at a PE firm this summer and just signed a lease for a unit with multiple bedrooms. One of the other associates I’m starting with is also looking for a housemate. Is it a bad idea to live with someone else you work with? I’ve only met him briefly at welcome events but he seems nice enough

It's generally not a big deal, and for the first few years makes a lot of sense as you have shared experience plus can always move on/out if it doesn't work.

What I would highly recommend, however, is to set some boundaries - it's very, very easy to end up in an echo chamber of nothing but work. Work related conversations at home, the bar, your friend group, etc. Obviously you aren't spending all your time with your roommates, but the closer you intertwine personal and work life, the harder it can be.

You didn’t mention if you’re a girl or a guy. Although 90% chance you’re a guy on WSO.

Hell no. I have a personal rule not to talk EBITDA past working hours or weekends, I can’t even imagine living with a person you’ll see 24/7 talking about the same shit

I can give some insight here as I currently am living with my co-worker, (same team, practically touching desks) in London and coming to the end of our contract in late August.

I really think it depends on the person you decide to stay with, I was led to believe in thinking my co worker was someone I would get along with easily. Which for the most part it was, we have similar interests/hobbies.

However - he has major attachment issues, (think clinginess), which has taken a large toll on the way I have to act around my own apartment. I find myself having to avoid any contact with him now as much as possible. I won’t bore you with all my issues ‘I’ have personally. But you get the story.

In essence, I think you have to choose your roommate carefully - yes the work talk is ‘sometimes’ conducive at home - but there is a line. You could be lucky and be the 1% that gets the perfect roommate, but I am yet to hear stories about that.
