Looking for FT Roommates NYC - Summer 2025

Hey all,

I'll be starting as an IB analyst in July, and will be moving to NYC around the beginning of that month. I'm looking for 1-2 roommates who would also be moving around that time. My budget would be up to ~$2,500. Looking to move quickly on this, so please reach out only if genuinely interested.

I'm working in midtown, so I'd probably be looking at places around there. Some of my hobbies include working out, biking, watching sports, gaming. I'm pretty chill and neat. Like to go out on weekends and explore the city.

Lmk if you're interested.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some tips and insights for finding FT roommates in NYC as an incoming IB analyst:

  1. Popular Neighborhoods for Midtown Workers:

    • Murray Hill/Gramercy: These areas are highly favored by young professionals working in Midtown. Rent for shared apartments typically ranges from $1,500 to $2,250 per person, depending on the number of roommates and apartment size.
    • Long Island City (LIC): Located in Queens, LIC offers a lower cost of living while being just 1-2 train stops from Midtown. Nightlife is limited, but the proximity to Manhattan makes it a convenient option.
    • Downtown/FiDi: While more popular for those working in FiDi, Battery Park City and surrounding areas can still be an option if you find a good deal.
  2. Budget Considerations:

    • With a budget of $2,500, you have flexibility to either share a larger apartment in a prime location or potentially secure a studio in a less central area. However, sharing with roommates will likely give you more value for your money.
  3. Timing and Process:

    • Start actively looking for apartments and roommates 2-3 months before your move-in date. The NYC rental market moves quickly, so be prepared to sign a lease as soon as you find a suitable place.
    • Ensure you have all necessary documents ready, such as proof of income (offer letter), credit score, and references. Landlords often require tenants to earn 40-65x the monthly rent or have a guarantor who earns 100x the rent.
  4. Roommate Search:

    • Platforms like Wall Street Oasis roommate threads, Facebook groups, and apps like Roomi or SpareRoom can help you connect with other professionals in similar situations.
    • Clearly communicate your preferences, such as cleanliness, lifestyle, and hobbies, to find compatible roommates.

If you're interested in connecting with others, consider posting on WSO's roommate threads or similar forums to find like-minded individuals. Good luck with your search and your new role in NYC!
