Hey everyone, new to WSO. I’m a junior at a non-target with a 3.9 gpa with experience in equity research and valuation looking to break into equity research at a large firm. Applied to over 100 internships, had a few superdays here and there but still no luck. Any tips to stay motivated and where to find more opportunities.

Invent a time machine, go back to high school and apply to a target
There's no magic trick to get over the suckiness of some things in life. You just gotta keep going. I mean what motivated you to work hard and get a 3.9 GPA? That same driving force is what keeps you going. Losing sucks, but you really only need 1 win to get the job you want.
This year is sucking more than usual so just keep at it. Also don’t limit yourself to equity research internships. Great skill to have, but public equities firms are losing AUM to indexing anyways
Yeah been applying to a bunch of asset management and front office stuff too
Have you been actively networking at the places you're applying to? Just applying cold never works
I’ve been reaching out to alumni from my school that work at some firms but they have little to no pull. Also have been cold messaging recruiters on LinkedIn and email and have barley been getting responses
You need to hop on the phone more then. Don't go for recruiters, target alum and actual employees. The only way you're going to make it through the resume screen is through talking to people. Also it's a rough job market right now, keep your head up
Non-target here as well, like the others said, keep networking. I got my internship (off-cycle during the school year) by calling up an alum and he invited me for an interview over the phone. Got lucky, that's for sure, but keep reaching out to people. Also does it have to be a large firm? Why not look at a smaller place, might be easier to connect with someone.
Congrats on position and thanks for the tips. I’m guessing the best technique for targeting the smaller firms is just cold messaging on linkedin since most don’t have a structured application process?
