Lost 17 year old looking for help
Im a senior in HS and got into 2 undergraduate programs: Financial Mathematics, and Economics. I need help deciding which major to pick. I am interested in the world of finance, and want to work in either AM, IB, PE, ER, risk management, or at a HF
I made a post on Reddit and some CS kid told me, “Both of those majors aren't great for getting into finance in the normal sense. Financial math is under the Department of Mathematics and not its business school, and economics is also not a typical major for that field. None of the majors you were accepted into are good for those fields.”
I’m so confused since this advice is the exact opposite of what I have read online. Was what he said true? What should I do? Should I apply to a different program?
IB values a high GPA and you're probably going to have a better chance at getting a 4.0 in Economics over Financial Mathematics.
Thanks for the advice man, you’re a legend. I’ve read your comments countless times and you’ve given me so much info on the finance world. Hope you have a happy holiday. I’m not sure how to send Private message, but if I find out how to I will. Not sure how else to say this, but thank you.
I thought u had misplaced a 17 y o
Should i change the title
Risk management is the most prestigious and rewarding option by far, but you'll have to grind to get a 4.0 at Wharton/Harvard and stack up PE MF and CVP/PJT/Q internship experience to even have a shot. Get started YESTERDAY.
What does “get started yesterday” mean
Good grief kid... cooked
You’re 17 big man. Relax and snag a beer from your dad’s fridge.
I'd major in what's most interesting to you and focus on bagging as much consensual tail as possible between now and the end of summer
you have a lifetime to work, you only get the summer between high school & college once. I'm closer to 50 than 20 and that was one of the best summers ever, I still think about it regularly
I was adrift until 30. I got my CFA charter and eventually lucked into a startup. We got bought and bought again. That top left key on your keyboard, yeah, hit it three times, That's me. It's a quarter trillion.
