Yeah, he just seems bored with chess now, like he’s lost his passion for it and it’s a chore

 

I think he knows he has to work harder to retain his status as #1 to the young guys and doesn't have the motivation to do so. He's complacent after being first for so long and thinking he's untouchable all these years. He's been the undisputed best player for like 10-12 years (the last person to be number 1 and WC is Anand, which is insane because Anand is like 50 something right now), so complacency is somewhat to be expected.
