My boss plays favourite so blatantly?

I started 7 months ago. I have been trying hard to put up with everything at work till I get my work Visa (I wish I could care less about my job and idle away my days at work, but I cannot. I am usually the first one to arrive and last one to leave on my team).

My boss' favorite guy always comes in late and leaves early, but she says nothing, yet if others take a lunch break more than an hour, she would get angry. When I first joined the team, that guy would always bad-mouth my boss over lunch. Not knowing the character of my boss, I found that guy's behavior off-putting and stopped going out for lunch with them. I was not sure what happened, then my boss threatened to fire me, because "I am not a good fit". I quickly realized I dislike my boss, which has brought me closer to that guy, and my boss started to be nicer.

My office is a really weird place. My boss only cares about making her boss (who is not based in the same office as us) happy, and her favourite guy only cares about making her happy. They would cherry-pick models to please management, truncate data for easier interpretation, withhold information just to piss someone off, lie to cover mistakes...sometimes I even notice that if I don't make an effort to keep him happy, my boss' favourite guy would purposefully withhold information (remove or add stuff) from me, and when I present my slides to my boss, she would get upset with me because my numbers are incorrect, and she would get even more upset when I explain the situation because no one but her can blame that guy. When I ask the guy why he withheld the info, he would grin and say "next time I will tell you". I don't approve many of the choices my boss has made, as to me they seem unethical and bad for the company, and any slight suggestion from me would be taken in a hostile way and I would be asked to leave the discussion. Both my boss and that guy are untrustworthy to me, as they constantly change their minds, and make an effort to avoid leaving hard proof, that when things go wrong, they would blame someone else. It has happened three times to me that my boss blamed me for decisions she made. I consider myself a good communicator with the habit of keeping track of things so I managed to find emails to protect myself.

Today she called me to her office and showed me a work schedule sheet she was going to present to her management, asking me to see if everything looks ok (she asks me to do quality check for anything important as she said I am very detail-oriented that I catch mistakes easily). I saw that she put her favourite guy's name in front of mine for anything the guy was even remotely involved with as the project leader, and the guy's name after me as the supporting person for all the projects I worked independently. (I suspect this is the same case for my other coworkers as that guy's name is all over the place). I helped her check the spreadsheet and left her office without saying anything about it. 10 min later she called me in to show me the spreadsheet again, telling me that she removed the name of that guy from my independent projects. "Ok. I want to be fair to all of you" She said to me. If she wants to be fair, she would not have put his name in my projects in the first place.

I know this is my side of the story. Sometimes I take a hard look at myself and wish the problem is me so I can change. But I look around and my other coworkers are doing no better than me. It seems to me they don't care much about this job. I have worked for very demanding manager before and enjoyed it. My current job/boss is not demanding at all, yet it disgusts me most of the time.

It is my first job in NYC. Is this the typical working environment here or it is me unlucky to get into a place like this?

Sounds like your enemy is in a special relationship with the lady. Tread carefully. She has feelings for him either as a friend or very likely more it sounds like.
