Normal to feel this way?

I am 25 year old and I have a great career outside finance.
I know what my passions and interest are. I also know which field to go into long term.
The path I have chose for myself I believe gives me the best chance of maximising my success in the field I want to go into. I am very much focused on self development. I may do an mba.

However sometimes I am so insecure about where I am in life.
I can't help but think sometimes that what if this is all there is in life?

Does anyone else feel this way?

You are never going to be 100% satisfied and that is normal. To be honest, do you ever want to be 100% satisfied?

We have evolved to enjoy the chase and pursuit of goals. It used to be that we were pursuing game with a spear or arrow and the satisfaction you gained from downing a deer or a turkey would lead to immediate gratification. Things are much more abstract these days but it is still a modern version of the same primordial hunt that we were bred for.

I guess I like the growth and development side of things. What would be the upsides and downsides of being 100% satisfied. I currently work 38 hours a week. And I don't want to be like that 60 year old hedge fund manager who thinks it's a failure to work less than 60 hours a week.

I'm starting a charity in my spare time.

I guess i'm like the fisherman in the story of the investment banker and the fisherman.

I can see that I have everything to be 100% satisfied in life but I'm annoyed I don't feel 100% satisfied and that I feel insecure.

I consider there to be 2 things in life:

a) Financial Profit - The result of hard work and bearing fruit.

b) Charity to others - How are you treating others day to day / moment to moment? Who do you love and what are you willing to do for them?

The latter is really the most important. Both are really all you need in life. No need to feel insecure.

If you’re productive at work, have a simple dinner at a pub, are nice to the waitress and tip her, be a gentleman wherever possible and treat others with love and respect - you have nothing to worry about and should go to sleep at night soundly knowing that you’re a productive member of society that is adding to growth and hard work and results /// rather than the increased welfare state that is growing in cities that is pulling down our nation.

Executive Summary:

If you’re a chill person and productive member of society - you’re golden, bro.

"If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them." - Bruce Lee

Does anyone else feel this way? Seriously? You have the power of the internet on a box in your pocket, giving you access to the collective works of society since the advent of writing, and you aren't sure if anyone else has ever questioned the meaning of life?

At this moment sounds like a perfect "Come to Jesus" moment. lol. But in all seriousness people find something in their personal life like a hobby, relationship, religion, children, etc. that make them feel more complete. I think the older I have become the more "satisfied" I've felt instead of completely fulfilled.

The thrill of the job, ambition and promotions are usually what a lot of people focus on, if you take on the perspective of moving forward instead of looking back or reflecting on your current state it could make you feel a lot better.

If you were actually looking for a deep answer, then do an evaluation of your values, what do you need to accomplish before you die? What life experiences do you need to achieve to be "Happy"? Actively accomplish these things, and also actively add things to your list. Celebrate the accomplishments and stay positive about the short comings.

I hope this helps.

It sounds like you've been too sheltered. One way to find happiness and satisfaction is to face a challenge or fear so big you feel satisfied not trying. Throw your gauntlet at life and let life fight back.

Jump on a plane to a place where you don't speak the language with no money and see how you fare. Find the rough underbelly of humanity and watch as the mindless, instinct-driven masses claw at you unconsciously, draining you of everything you hold dear.

The devil is out there, and the Lord's light doesn't shine as bright if you never get to Know the darkness.

I've observed several studies and surveys that conclude your mid-20's are the SHITTIEST part of life. It's a point where your peers all start losing linear direction via college and straight pathways and I think society massively downplays the consequences of people going from straightforwardness to an open-ended environment.

You seem like you have a good sense of direction but lack the conviction in your decisions which is very much normal! You're being empowered by your own will vs the will of outside forces. Keep working on this and you will develop a very strong sense of confidence in your 30s.

People think having smartphones are a blessing but it's a curse to mental health. Ignorance is truly bliss as not knowing what's possible also makes you not feel left behind. The reality is that insecurity and anxiety defines my millennial generation. It's ok, it's normal, it's expected to feel this way. That said, it also means those who will thrive in this world are those who have strong views and stick on them with confidence, but also have a leveled ego to self improve. As you solidify your skills and get good at them, your uncertainty subsides.
