NYC private employer vaccine mandates - what is your company doing?

Curious about what everyone's company is doing in response to this. My CEO leans libertarian and basically lets everyone WFH if they wish, but we're also a small buy-side shop. No shaming, no mandatory return-to-office, no push for the unvaccinated to get the vaccine.

Is your company actively enforcing the mandates or firing people who are still not vaccinated?

In the third wave of data collection in the Main Survey (2011–2013), six cognitive function tests were administered following piloting (Gray et al., 2011McFall, 2013). Representing a range of cognitive skills, these tests have been repeatedly deployed in large-scale, population-based studies (Borsch-Supan et al., 2013Lachman et al., 2010Richards et al., 2004Sonnega et al., 2014Steptoe et al., 2013). Verbal declarative memory was assessed using both immediate word recall and delayed word recall tasks. Respondents listened to a list of ten words delivered by a computer; they were then asked to immediately recall the words and, again, at a later stage in the interview without having heard the words again. The number of correct responses was recorded on each occasion. For semantic verbal fluency, respondents named as many animals as they could in one minute; the final score was based on the number of unique correct responses. Using components of screening instruments for cognitive impairment including the Mini Mental State Examination (Crum et al., 1993) and the Cambridge Cognitive Examination (Huppert et al., 1995), respondents were asked to subtract 7 from 100 and then subtract 7 from their answer on four more occasions. The number of correct responses of a maximum of five was recorded. Fluid reasoning was assessed using a number sequence in which the respondent populated the gap(s) in a logical series. Respondents were initially presented with simple examples to test their understanding; those who seemed confused or unable to understand test requirements after the relaying of two examples were excused from the test. Remaining study members were administered two sets of three number sequences, with the difficulty of the second set determined by their performance on the first. A score was derived which accounts for the difficulty of the items. Lastly, for numerical reasoning skills, individuals were given three numerical problems to solve and, depending on their responses, were then administered a further one (simpler) or two (more difficult) problems. The total number of correct responses was recorded.

It's all dependent on whether you believe these petty tasks are a good predictor of intelligence (IQ tests would fall under this). Reminds me of the silly pymetrics games I took during recruiting where popping a balloon at the right time or spamming the spacebar would be a great indication of whether I would be a qualified analyst or not.

And even if this was the case, are you really taking average level statistics and applying them to individual people?

Haven’t heard anything as of yet. Granted, I haven’t started yet but I was never asked if I was vaccinated even during interviews or after I got an offer. Firm is a CRE brokerage that leans more conservative.

I am fully vaccinated so not really worried. But I doubt they’ll force anyone to get the shot, boosters or anything like that. Makes me happy they’re not terrified of COVID.

Good on your employer for allowing the choice. My previous (200+ person) bank required an attestation that employees were vaccinated (no booster requirement). Uploading the actual card into the HR software was an option. Current (200 persons) bank is requiring the booster

Go all the way

Seems like we're allowing people to do what they want, but essentially forcing unvaccinated folks to work fully remote.  Which means they're getting taken off of interesting and engaging projects (I work in real estate, not finance, it's more hands on) and put on more administrative tasks.  Can only imagine that routes for promotions and raises and all that become more fraught as well.

Which is as it should be.  If you don't want to get vaccinated, that's fine, but don't complain when your choices and your lack of concern for the health and wellness of your colleagues limits your options from the standpoint of professional advancement.
