NYC - Where are we living?
Jesus fucking Christ the rents keep going up every year and I cannot stomach using one whole paycheck on rent anymore. Are we downsizing? Giving up amenities? Moving out of manhattan? Where is everyone living and how are you budgeting for it?
How are you a first year PE associate (or more senior, as I find the titles are seldom updated and often deflated) and spending an entire paycheck on rent? Am I way out of touch or is that not close to $6-8k? If so, your standards are probably way too high
Rent is below 2500, but that still feels too much. Unfortunately I do not make MF money🥲
Huh? Base for PE associates is still 150-175K. Post-tax, a pay check is probably around 4-5K? If you’re living by yourself in a one bedroom, I can see how rent is a paycheck.

It's not for everyone, but I left Manhattan now that I'm married and boring. Got more bang for my buck in Queens (Astoria / LIC / etc.). Currently in a 2BR 2BA for $4.8k.
If you're a young single person who wants nightlife then I wouldn't recommend it tho because it's quieter around here.
How’s your commute to work? I would move out of manhattan if work didn’t require 5 days in office smh
Mine is ~25 minutes to midtown.
Hot take but Queens dating scene is seriously underrated. Used to spend a lot of my early-mid 20s out at places you've mentioned + some other areas in Eastern Queens. I've always found women there more down to earth vs. Manhattan / West Brooklyn.
Have spent years residing in and visiting Queens throughout my life, and I agree 100%.
Suburbs are underrated if you can afford it (money / carere wise).
