Can OnlyFans survive without sex? [Fortune article]
OnlyFans has announced it will ban sexually explicit content starting in October. That could help it court investors in the short term, but it could alienate fans and [ahem] creators in the long term. Seems OF has in mind to try also to appeal to more mainstream celebrities and get mainstream content online.
What do you guys think of this from a business model perspective? Are they smart to try to go mainstream or is this a boneheaded move? Is this just a short-term investor money-grab?
Remember when Tumblr banned porn? Remember what happened to their usage and userbase subsequently? Yeah, it's probably going to be like that.
It's not a good business plan at all, but I can understand if the founders are sad about what their platform turned into. They founded it without realizing it would become a porn thing.

I'm sure many tech founders are disappointed when their innovations are reduced down to simple porn-related usage. Like the inventors of the VHS tape, the DVD, the Internet.... all these became mostly for porn. And I hope that devolution to masturbatory tool doesn't happen to my own invention - the electric dick massager.

Quite a few PTs I know already signed up, not sure how much traffic they are getting. But as a personal trainer, life coach, mentor, chef, or any coach - it is difficult enough to get any traction because there are so many of them out there.

They're gutting the business in hopes of making it more palatable to investors because what's most important nowadays is the big lucrative buyout, screw long-term business prospects.
