The problem is she would become president and not even her own party liked her in the primaries.

This same sentiment can be applied to VP who ran for President and ended up on the ticket, in either party, ever.

I don't know if I'd be "energized," but I also don't know why you'd assume I'd be upset about it.

She would be fine.

So what you’re saying is that you want to see America burn. CoMmUNiSt!

Can't wait until DJT kicks the bucket. I'll be energized then.

Not a Dem but given the vote last night, I would be super worried about both Joe and Kamala if I was on the Left. Biden better be one of the best presidents in the last 50 years or 2024 is going to be absolutely brutal. And that means "best president" in the eyes of the average person, not the average hard-core liberal.

The American people made it pretty clear last night that they would rather prefer a dangerous buffoon to what the Democratic party is selling. Not a good starting point for a Democratic presidency.

Last night was simply reflective of an incredibly divided country, but Biden has nothing to be "super worried" about here - he ran away with the popular vote and is the prohibitive favorite to win the presidential election.

Trump won a record number of votes, but Biden won a record number too - and millions more at that. You can't cast a victory as a defeat.

No not really. The vote is at ~50/50 with the coronavirus. In addition, trump did just about every blunder possible and was literally responsible for the deaths of thousands. How do you think the vote would have come out if there was no coronavirus?

This could be an electoral victory for Biden. But the fact the Dems got only ~50% of the vote with literally everything going for them is pitiful.

Look, I'm giving free advice here. Don't listen to it at your own peril, but the message seems to be that Americans don't like what the Dems are selling or how they're selling it. If they don't tweak their message by 2024 or have an absolutely amazing presidency, it's gonna be ugly.

Side note: I've heard liberals say it on this website plenty of times. Trump is supposedly the worst president in US History. If you only got ~50% of the vote and barely squeezed by the WORST president in history, you need to be very concerned about your messaging.

FTFY

Can Democrats take even a moment of self reflection and ask if something could have been done better to appeal to more people?

"There were just more racists and dumb people than we thought" seems to be a lazy excuse for the close vote. And again, if you guys keep thinking that way, it's great for Republicans in 2024.

Not saying I agree/disagree with your comments, just wanted to point out from a factual standpoint Biden leads by about 3 million total votes so I think you have your names mixed up.

Why is this a bad thing?

I supported Biden but I'll end up voting Republican 90+% in the future (in fact I supported Republicans in local elections this time).

If Trump loses, then in 2024 the Republican party goes back to its former self a little bit and maybe even care more about social safety nets.

After Biden, more voters will see how ridiculous the Democrats are and you can easily have GOP WH 2024-2032. If the Democratic party doesn't go full SJW, then it'll be centrists who'll rule again, which is a good thing.

So you Dem supporters, are you energized by the prospect of a President Kamala Harris when Joe kicks the bucket?

Fixed for ya

Biden is up in Nevada, Michigan, and Wisconsin. If those three hold, that's 270 and we'll know as soon as they're official - likely today. If one of those switches (Nevada is the closest at the moment) and Biden needs Pennsylvania (where he is gaining rapidly thanks to Philly and mail in voting), we probably won't know until tomorrow or Friday.

Biden seems to be in very good shape in that he is fit and trim.  I have never heard OP express any concern about the current POTUS kicking the bucket even though he is obese.

Mike Pence would be an upgrade over Trump in my opinion. His political future is fucked up because of Trump’s bad missteps possibly, but he is much more Presidential and seems like a decent guy. A lot of Democrats he has dealt with think he is a decent guy.

Best thread on the topic. It'd be hilarious. Catastrophically bad for the US, but still hilarious.

Never discuss with idiots, first they drag you at their level, then they beat you with experience.

How did they suddenly “find” 138k votes in Michigan that all went to Biden? Sorry, but I don’t trust this election. Mail-in voting and late counting has made it a disaster.

They didn't suddenly "find" anything. They counted existing votes. That's what you do in an election - you count the votes.

When Trump denigrated mail in voting for months, and far more Democrats take COVID seriously than Republicans, it is no surprise whatsoever that more Democrats voted by mail.

Mail in voting has existed for ages. Republicans regularly used it to win Florida. This conspiracy is complete nonsense.

Most of the democratic counties as of 1:00am ET last night in MI, WI, PA were only 30-40% counted, while most republican counties were more or less 95%-100% counted by 1:00am ET.

That's how. But please, join your fearless leader in declaring fraud to find out he flat out didn't get the votes.

Republicans should start a conspiracy that Biden is working with a foreign power, never accept his election as legitimate, riot violently over the next four years, impeach him on shaky grounds, and have all their civil servants in the Biden administration actively sabotage and undermine Biden every step of the way. It's only fair now.

I don't know about Harris' chances in 2024. Her addition as VP added nothing for Biden. If she was chosen for identity politics reasons, it clearly didn't work because Trump's support improved in every race and gender except white men. If I were a GOP strategist, I would be feeling much more bullish about 2024 chances assuming that Trump loses. In what was supposed to be a rout, Trump has managed to make this an actual contest, and along the way a new voting demographic has emerged for the GOP in Hispanic voters (not just in Florida but IN GA, PA, and NC). We also have to look at the situation that Biden is inheriting - he is going to have to contend with the public health crisis and deal with the trade-offs of lockdowns (something he says he is not averse to doing) if there continues to be a rise in cases. We continue to see persistently high unemployment and the earliest predictions for a full recovery are Q2/Q3 2022.

I don't think there will be much political will to do judicial reform (court packing) in this term either. He's already given a mealymouthed answer that he will defer to a bi-partisan commission of legal experts to consider court packing and other reforms. GOP retention of the senate does not help him either. Don't expect Biden to do anything radical with the party being in such a precarious position for 2024. Expect more infighting and disunity between the Bernie wing of the party and moderate democrats if Biden refuses to do anything. A pyrrhic victory for Dems, if you ask me.

Edit: The Hill just came out with an article saying centrist Dems are mulling leadership changes lol

But still a victory for moderate Dems like me. Sure, I would have liked to see what Biden could do with a Democratic Senate, but if all I get is the idiots out of the White House while maintaining a check on the further-left components of the party, I can't say I'm to upset.

Another psychotic neoliberal. Woke crap at home, and imperialism abroad. Hand over control of all communication to tech oligarchs (we can totally trust Jack Dorsey, right?). Lincoln Project-type impotents will get their war in Russia and Syria, and the white working class can get fucked even harder for being too privileged and racist. We'll continue to give billions in foreign aid to Israel and take on an replacement-level amount of immigration. All of this so Google and Blackstone can continue to restructure our economy and bring us the New Normal™.

Maybe sit this one out while the adults are talking, kiddo.

There are intelligent posts in this thread of people on both sides. Yours isn't one of them.

IDK man. Sure the optics are a little angry and moderately schizo, but the neoliberal order has its problems. US bipartisan foreign policy establishment is either straight retarded or psychopathic. A lot of uneducated whites (and hispanics, and blacks, and asians, etc) in the first world have been left behind by globalization. Dems are better than the GOP, not doubt, but they're still not very good in absolute terms.

Harris reminds me of one of those bitchy HR reps that is extremely fake and gives really awful facial gestures. I dont like her at all. She's all for BLM movement but has put more black people in jail than anyone in the country. If I remember correctly, she pushed the agenda in Cali cities where they'd prosecute blacks for just have a small joint on them.
