this may incite a bit of hellfire on the discussion board, but i feel the need to share. blame it on my liberal arts background.
when i was walking by a bb yesterday i noticed a summer scurrying in with their blackberry and a t-shirt with this emblazoned on the front:
4 yrs tuition @ public school: $20,000 4 yrs tuition @ harvard: $200,000 taking the ivy league kids jobs: priceless
there are some things money can’t buy and that sucks for them.
gotta admit, the kid has balls wearing a shirt like this into any bank…

i know the kid who wore this shirt, all of them that have it have BB IBD and Trading jobs, both full time and interns soo... last time I checked the Harvard guy probably did want his job. maybe he can get a refund??

Reminds me of Michael Eisner - to this day he still brags that he never went to business school. Wow, gee, after 30 years in corporate America you made something of yourself, with no business degree, let me worship you, what a smart hard worker you must be.
You must have seen one of my class mates and friends. I have this shirt, too, and find it highly amusing that it warranted a post on this discussion board.

My guess is the d bag that has the shirt wrote the post just to make it known that he has such an inferiority complex.
^^ Just my 2 cents....If I went to an Ivy and didn't get a job knowing that I spent so much on my education and that I was from a target...I'd be the one with the inferiority complex...
Not really...the shiny Ivy name will always be on your resume and the alumni networks are better. In the long run, it's still a better investment. Besides the fact that you get a better education, and your professors that write recommendations for you and invite you to dinner are Nobel prize winners and wrote all of the textbooks that the state school kids are reading.
^^ I suppose. But the fact that someone would go out of their way and spend that much effort thinking about it and making a t-shirt clearly states where the envy is. It's clearly still on the guy's mind 4 years later.
^^ True that...but my aim was to prove a point that in the end what matters is where you are now, and not where you have been or what you have done...So i feel that the guy had full liberty to wear whatever the hell he wants, and calling him a Tool wouldn't change what he is right now....and speaking of tools i knew about 6-7 kids who for a damn week paraded around in their sweatshirts during summer just because it had their schools name on it, and watching them isn't even funny, compared to his t shirt..
Just another comment..i'm not sure how it is at all the other ivies, but at mine, anyone who wanted a job in finance/consulting got one. I know of no one who was left with nothing after corporate recruiting.
And, I guess some of the point is the place where you end up, but if you still feel bitter in that position towards others' past, nothing has really changed. Inevitably, you'll meet tools everywhere you go who do parade around in their college sweatshirts, and while that's sort of ridic. esp. when you're older, it's still a way of showing school pride (maybe they should have had t-shirts). Had this said-kid wore just a t-shirt with his school on the front, it may have been different.
It's just sad that a group of kids got together, thought to make this shirt, and then printed and paid for them.
May I also add that in most public schools you probably get a free ride too. I don't mind paying $15 for a tshirt to show off in that case.

The assumption that anyone in an Ivy had to "buy" their way in is way off-base. Maybe if this kid had worked in high school and put in the effort to do a decent application he would have gotten into an Ivy.
Plus, if he's so smart, why the hell is he paying $5k/yr to go to a public school? If he's good enough to get a BB job, then he should have been good enough after high school to get buckets of aid from State U.
