If you want to do IB out of school, I’d suggest going the boutique route. I did a PWM internship at a similar type bank and while I think it was great for me, it didn’t really move the needle for full time offers. With that said, this boutique shop will give you 3 months of hands on experience that will make you more confident once full time recruiting kicks in. If you end up wanting to actually go into Pwm, well you can and your IB experience will lend you credibility because the PWM people think of IB as great career experience. Also, you should think about your personality type and how that fits into your career goals. Do you want to sell, be tied to revenue/ commission and set your own schedule or have a less structured role? Do you like people and having conversations? Then PWM could be for you. Do you want to learn business, model, and read…then IB/PE is your path.
