Selective Cancel Culture Rant

Woke up this morning and all news outlets are "educating" the US how a blaccent is wrong. I am not saying it is or it isn't but the lack of consistency when it comes to things being canceled is really getting to me. If a black accent is wrong, then why isn't it wrong to mock a southern, German, French or even Australian accent? The answer should come down to intent and context but it just doesn't. If we were all so sensitive and thoughtful then why isn't the NY major cancelled for saying "cracker"? I personally like him and don't care he did but logically for the sake of consistency we should. There are just too many examples to count and I see it every single day on the news.

The media is not real life.  I have never seen a liberal person on WSO say anything disparaging about a black person but I can't say the same thing about some conservatives here.   It is kind of ridiculous to imply that liberals think that all conservatives are racists.   With that said, the only only anti-black comments on site seem to be posted by people with conservatives views.  Of course, this reflects a small percentage of the people on this site.

Because most liberals at their heart are racist and implicitly or not rank groups (gender, race, religion) in terms of superiority. They completely forgo the individual experience and just bucket people into groups (which I just did at the start of the sentence but hey no one is perfect)

White males being in charge of companies is a problem. But saying jewish people being in charge of companies is anti semetic

Christians have backwards bigoted beliefs. But it's wrong to say the same about muslims.

If you're a woman and feel scared around a man at night, at a party, etc. that's ok and your feelings are validated. But if it's a black man you are racist trash

"God those Canadians over there are being so annoying" is fine to say. But make it Mexicans? Whoa watch it!

A golden example of this was that video that went viral a few years ago of a girl getting catcalled in NYC. It was to display how hard it is to be a woman at times, to shame men from catcalling, point out casual sexism, etc. which it was succeeding at for a few days. Until someone pointed out that every single catcaller was a minority - and that 'catcalling' for that group is just part of street culture, and it's wrong for a white woman to go to a different location and expect that culture to adhere to her. The director of the video and the actress then apologized for the video and representation from it.

Once you realize how their brains work it's pretty fucking comical lol pathetic people walking on egg shells that generally have no life experience with other groups

I feel like this entire comment is dumb.

Most liberals don't have an issue with white males being in charge of companies. Biden is a white male so it's clearly a nonsensical point. I think many liberals argue that there should be a higher representation of other groups but that's not the same as having an issue with white males being in charge of companies.

Christians and Muslims both hold some bigoted beliefs. I've not seen many liberals argue otherwise.

The rest feels like something you've made up rather than something I've seen genuinely be argued.

I didn't see any of this on "all news outlets", so some citation would be nice.

I'm not sure what the problem is, though.  Cancel culture has been around for a long time - remember when Republicans "cancelled" the Dixie Chicks over their opposition to the Iraq War?  I sure do.  Your average conservative will tell you that voting with your wallet is the strongest and best expression of disapproval for corporate antics, with which I agree.  But that's all "cancel culture" is.  You don't like the Chick-Fil-A doesn't like LGBTQ folks?  Don't shop there.  Don't like that a comedian is a sexual predator?  Don't go to their shows.  At the end of the day, no one is legislating this, so no one should be upset.

As always, conservatives are fragile little snowflakes who can dish it out but can't take it.  If you don't like the policy or actions f a company or a person, don't buy what they're selling.  That's cancel culture in a nut shell.  It only became an issue when it was conservatives who got "cancelled".
