Ive done the Spartan race once. It was more of a mental challenge for me than physical. But, you obviously want to be in some sort of shape, I didn't do anything special to train, just stuck to my normal regimen. I run on rugged terrains and weightlift 2-3 times a week when i have time.

Endurance and pacing is key.
Gotcha. I'm a cyclist, I lift and started doing Muay Thai (the conditioning is kicking my ass). Maybe that'll be sufficient if I add some running.
