Summer Housing

Hello,

Looking for housing this summer in Manhattan along with a friend. A two bedroom would be ideal but willing to make a one bedroom work. June 1 - August 15, if anyone is in need of subletters please let me know!

Any help or advice is appreciated.

Based on the WSO Dataset, finding summer housing in Manhattan can indeed be a challenge, especially for a specific timeframe like June 1 to August 15. Here are some tips and advice that might help you in your search:

  1. Explore Subletting Options: As you're open to subletting, platforms like Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and specific Facebook groups dedicated to NYC housing can be valuable resources. There are often posts from individuals looking to sublet their apartments for the summer.

  2. Consider NYU Summer Housing: Although you mentioned a preference for a two-bedroom apartment, it's worth noting that NYU offers summer housing to non-NYU students. While studios might be limited, exploring this option could provide a centrally located and potentially more affordable alternative.

  3. Check Out Dedicated Housing Websites: Websites like SpareRoom, Leasebreak, and even the WSO housing forum can offer listings that cater to short-term leases or sublets. These platforms can sometimes offer gems not found on larger, more general platforms.

  4. Be Flexible with Your Requirements: Given the competitive nature of NYC's housing market, especially in the summer, being flexible with your requirements (such as considering a large one-bedroom where the living room can be converted into a second bedroom) might open up more options.

  5. Act Quickly: The NYC housing market moves fast. Be prepared to make decisions quickly and have your documents and finances in order. This includes having proof of income, a security deposit, and the first month's rent ready.

  6. Networking: Utilize your network and any connections you have in NYC. Sometimes the best opportunities come through word-of-mouth. Let friends, family, and acquaintances know you're looking for summer housing.

Remember, persistence is key in the NYC housing market. Keep an eye on multiple platforms daily, as new listings can come and go quickly. Good luck with your search!
