The Sober Curious

Just finished these:

The articles write about a population of individuals that they're coining, "The Sober Curious", or people who for the sake of wellness are reevaluating their relationships with alcohol and how often they drink. While I can't think of anything more fey than that label, I've been drinking since 16 with regularity and have been tangentially reevaluating my own relationship with alcohol.

At 27 years old, I've evolved from a binge drinker to a selective drinker. I have no problem turning down social outings that aren't going to be worth the drinking to me. It feels like alcohol has lost it's euphoric novelty, but at the end of a bottle, there's still that warm, comforting feeling of home. I enjoy my new hobbies / skipping shitty outings more than I used to enjoy drinking as a default.

These sober venues are an interesting concept. I picture them wanting to be like "Central Perk" from the show "FRIENDS", but not coffee and mocktails instead? But what's compelling enough for me to ever come more than once?

Monkeys -- Sober Curious? Fucking with this concept? Is there a sober movement afoot? Lemme hear it

My co-workers can't save any money because they'll spend hundreds of dollars a weekend on alcohol, or worse they'll travel to far away venues/events as an excuse to drink, which is even more expensive. There are a crazy number of functioning alcoholics out there.

Well said. It is quite alarming when you really start to think about it. So many activities revolve around drinking.
