Thinking of going on a long walk with my mentor in NYC

My mentor is recently into cardio and personal training and I'm thinking of planning a long walk. Maybe 20mi walk around central park. But, breaks at restaurants. Any recommendations?

Planning a 20-mile walk around NYC with breaks at restaurants sounds like a fantastic idea! Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some recommendations for your route and dining stops:

Route Suggestions

  1. Central Park Loop: Central Park offers a scenic and extensive loop for walking. You can start at the southern end (59th Street) and work your way up to the northern tip (110th Street). The full loop is about 6 miles, so you can repeat it or extend your walk by exploring nearby areas.
  2. Riverside Park: After Central Park, head west to Riverside Park for a quieter, riverside walk. It stretches along the Hudson River and offers beautiful views.
  3. Hudson River Greenway: If you're up for more, continue south along the Hudson River Greenway, which is perfect for long walks and connects to Battery Park.

Restaurant Breaks

Here are some great spots to refuel along your walk:

  1. Maialino (Gramercy): A cozy Italian spot for a hearty meal. Perfect for a mid-walk break if you venture south of Central Park.
  2. Levain Bakery (Upper West Side): Famous for its cookies, this is a great quick stop for a sweet energy boost.
  3. Tavern on the Green (Central Park): Located within Central Park, this iconic restaurant offers a mix of casual and upscale dining options.
  4. Jacob's Pickles (Upper West Side): Known for its Southern comfort food, it's a great spot for a satisfying meal.
  5. The Loeb Boathouse (Central Park): A classic spot in the park for a scenic and relaxing dining experience.

Tips for the Walk

  • Hydration: Carry a water bottle and refill at fountains in the park.
  • Pacing: Plan for breaks every 5-6 miles to rest and enjoy your meals.
  • Comfort: Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress in layers, as NYC weather can change quickly.

Enjoy your walk and the bonding time with your mentor!

Isaiah, are you ok?

Why do you, at 40 years old or whatever, need to make a thread asking anonymous 16-20 year olds on the internet permission to go on a walk with someone you know? And why does the walk need to be 20 miles specifically?

Just text or call the dude and say "Hey, do you want to walk around Central Park for a bit and grab lunch after on Saturday? Got some ideas I want to bounce off you," or whatever.

...but is it REPE?

Restaurant favorites near Central Park would have been nice. Not sure why you're all hot and bothered.

so like a bar crawl?

Actually, that sounds really good at the end. But for most of the journey no drinking. Confirmed the date today. It's going down on in NYC on Saturday 1/17/26. We have 9 hours and 16 minutes of light. Sunrise at 7:14am Sunset 4:30pm. I might need a jacket if we go past 4:30pm, but don't want to carry a jacket the whole way.
