Consulting is lame. I know I want to get into high ranks in PE long-term, and IB is a good beginning. Consulting is just futile, traveling kinda seems attractive but eventually it won't get me where I need to be

Don't really regret it, but I think I should mention it here.
So out of university, I had an offer from a top PE in Abu Dhabi, UAE. It's probably no. 1? Haven't been following tbh. Pay was fucking astronomical, no taxes & rent free with a bunch of allowances. At the same time I had also my current AM position lined up for me. Pay was nominally more than doubled, with no taxes or rent..etc. I was too excited to try something new and save as much as I can, the opportunity seemed like once in a lifetime.
As I said, I don't regret not accepting it eventually. My friend, a Canadian citizen with Lebanese background, revealed to me some horrific shit the UAE govt & royal family are up to. Given that I would've essentially become a servant of the royal family, I declined and never looked back. My friend brought up a story about the UAE's ambassador to the US actively trafficking underage girls to serve the pleasure of American lobbyists hosted in Abu Dhabi. The story is absolutely nauseating and triggering on all levels. This country is among the highest payers for American & British lawmakers and media. Just about a month ago its ruler was indicted by the supreme court in the US, apparently he collaborated with pedo George Nader to nail the approval of Donald trump & Jared kushner (so much for the anti swamp eyy) for backroom deals. If you look deeper into it, you'll find that these deals involve trade agreement with Israel and F-35 jets; also some PR campaigns painting the country as peace loving, tech hub beacon in the middle East.
Thank fuck I was enlightened before making the decision. Fuck the UAE and its rulers, these people are deranged psychopaths. Our governments aren't any better of course, they enable these shitheads. But we still hold discretion to serving the government. Virtually all of us work for the private sector. Let's leave it at that pls.

People choose to roll their eyes, especially with a purely political subject. Most people simply don't care, others will let it pass to avoid reconciliation with their political views — and mind you, this forum will especially have a hard time with that. This George Nader dude has been raping kids since the 1980's, and yet he worked with every single US administration ever since, including Trump. No political committment can make anyone gloss over this ghoulishness.
I told a friend about the compensation there and he was drooling the shit out of his mouth. Infatuation with lavish lifestyle is more powerful than you could possibly think.
