US vs. Algeria game. Did you see that?
Did you see that? Sometimes I cannot believe how arranged games can look. 4 min extra time, really? And a goal... looked to good to be true. It got me jumping around when US scored though...

Seriously that goal was crazy. I'm not even a huge world cup fan but that had me jumping out of my seat.
saw it in my office's conference room... amazing...
library at school went fucking bananas
I was about to break my TV if the refs cost the US another 3 pts...
I was about to break my TV when Algeria got the corner kick 30 seconds later. I was terrified they were going to tie it up again right away. Talk about a let down.
It's not always about the points, but yeah - you have to have luck on your side (or at least not against you) now that everything is sudden death.
US had to win that to get in the next round. My office went bonkers.
:)
And at the same time England qualified. I'm surrounded by both English and American people. The ambiance was crazy.
Hopefully we play Serbia instead of Ghana or Germany
What was wrong with 4 mins. stoppage?
Anyway, if anything, the WC is fixed against the US. Dempsey's called-back goal today was actually legitimate.
Hoping we get Serbia, too.
I literally jumped out of my seat and started screaming... it was awesome.
This is why soccer is so great... when that last-minute goal gets your team into the next phase of the tournament, the excitement you feel is greater than any touchdown or home-run I've ever witnessed.
4 mins is rather long for a game... I really shouldn't have commented on that though as I didn't see how much the ref stopped the play the entire 2nd half . I meant that the WC looks like it is fixed for drama - not only for the US. I almost forget why I love football:)
Here's the video of the goal, for those that couldn't watch:

Simply put: Absolutely incredible!
And I think broadcasters will be happy with the way the US team marches on http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/ea672542-7e5f-11df-94a8-00144feabdc0.html. The US can easily get to the quarterfinals now that their next game is with Serbia (most probably). Conspiracy theories that make soccer more appealing here all the way (yeah I read that fix soccer thread yesterday)
The Americans deserved it... they had the 'winners' mentality. I hope the USA will make it a lot further. But they probably have to beat those bloody Germans first. and remember.. you only know for sure that the Germans lost a game if they are in the bus on the way back home! (Dutch saying, because they always score in extra time)
There is no way that Germany is going to lose to Ghana (in what is essentially a must win situation). They have looked great in both of the previous matches including the loss (weak red card to Klose in the 34th min put them at 10 men and Pod's inability to finish easy chances). So we should play Ghana or Serbia. We have a legit chance to make a run, esp. if Howard does what he has done in the past in big games and we finish a few of our chances.
Great day for US soccer.
Caution on "there is no way that Germany is going to lose to Ghana" comment. Ghana beat Serbia and Germany lost to Serbia. Without klose, they're also at a disadvantage. Ghana will love to play against USA considering we beat them in 2006 but if we win or draw, we most likely play England.
I think we have a solid chance against Ghana.
England is highly unlikely to withstand the German blitzkrieg though. Schweinsteiger will fuck them up.
Hell, US can go to a semi-final. I'd like to see the New York City streets if that happens.
Looks like the U.S. got the easier side of stage 2.
Assuming US can beat Ghana, they will probably then face Uruguay. This is a much better scenario than England, who will be playing against Germany and then Argentina.
The US have a good chance of getting to the semi-finals, but won't be able to compete with Spain/Netherlands/Portugal/Brazil... but then no one thought they could compete with England.
U.S. sucks dick. Too bad we're gonna get creamed by Ghana.
Ya, Ghana really knows how to light up that scoreboard. If we lose to Ghana, the score will be 1-0. No way they post more than one score.
I was surprised that the Algerians didn't have their goalie in the penalty area - that's when it gets interesting... but then again, they had nothing to play for really. That is what I don't get and at the same time like about the WC. Teams like Algeria, Australia still play ... Cameroon, Ivory Coast and N. Korea will still play tomorrow. Glad to know that there are so many people in this forum that care about the beautiful game
There's no point in having your goalie in the penalty area if he's tiny and can't head a ball
Near the end of the game I could tell they weren't playing for anything. It looked like they were trying to run the clock out knowing that the U.S. needed a win. Anyone else get that impression? Seemed kind of low to me that they would abandon their hopes of winning just to keep the U.S. from advancing. If that was the case, it makes me even happier that it turned out how it did.
Ghana played awesome yesterday. I am pretty sure that they will beat the US if they play the way they played before.
Interesting game....
Germany England however is gonna be interesting as well
Ghana is a team that relies on penalty kicks to win matches. Thats how they won their last matches and thats how they won against the US team in 2006. If the US doesnt allow Ghana any penalty kicks then they will win.
that just shows that u have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. Did you watch the game yesterday? They played extremly disciplined and aggresive and actually should have won....
Secondly the trainer, the strategy and most players are not the same as in 2006. You cannot classify a team as "penalty team". Soccer does not work like that. Furthermore, despite the facht that classification in general seem to be moronic when it comes to soccer as strategy changes with trainer, a classification into "penalty team" is just stupid. You would have to argue that they actively try to receive penalty kicks which they did not in the last games. They might have gotten lucky receiving penalties....
nevertheless if they play against the US the way they played against Germany... goodbye US.
I will never forget the moment I was watching the FIFA World Cup 2002 and it was England vs. Germany in the quarter-final. It was a freekick and Ronaldinho got the ball right past the English goalkeeper, David Seaman (wasn't he the current world's best goalkeeper?). It was amazing. And as for those bicycle kickers... show-offs but man they're awesome. I loved playing soccer. My favorite sport with a ball that is bigger than a tennis ball hands down.
Edit: Thanks to Troll.
you guys are a little dissalusioned... USA is a shit team, no quality, just good cohesiveness not going any further, but good mentality though,
I think chemistry goes a long way. Back when I played club soccer, 8 of our starters went on to play d2/weak d1 soccer and we were knocking off teams with multiple d1 top recruits/full riders... we just played great as a unit. That said, if we can buckle down in the first half and not give up any weak early goals we should do well. Dempsey needs to finish and look for Altidore to do big things.
I went to "safe hands" seaman's testimonial match, but he was nowhere near the best. I'd take cech, buffon, casillas, valdes, reina, cesar, doni over him in his prime.
D-block, Germany only lost to Serbia because Klose got two ridiculous yellow cards and was sent off in the ~35th minute, Podolski not only missed the PK but failed to convert 2-3 chances from the top of the 6 yard box so your argument is weak but I do agree that Germany could have lost as Ghana created plenty of chances and Germany cant fcking finish (if they could, they would have blown Ghana out).
I think if the US doesnt concede early and controls the central midfield and instead allows Ghana to work down the flanks we should win as we are generally good in the air and Howard is good off his line.
US wins 2 - 1
Moreover, it is true that the US have not been helped by the refs. but if they drew against Algeria they could only have blamed themselves for missing so many sitters and open nets. They will not get that many chances against solid teams in the KO phase.
US could do well - no real genius in the team but a solid block. Plus they have arguably the easiest path imaginable to the semis (it is almost surreal actually how easy it is)
I think u underestimate Ghana...
You guys do realise that ghana reached the final of the african nations cup?
Great; and the US are 14th on the FIFA ranking. What do both of these facts mean? Squadoosh, like Norman Chad would say.
@ Troll: Thanks so much for the correction man.
they trying to screw usa outta advancing. all them hatersss
Ghana also beat Brazil to win the U-20 Worldcup. Some of these players are on the national team. Do not underestimate the Black Stars.
At lest nobody is talking about the slovenia game
You'd be better off watching England vs Germany on Sunday due to all the history and the comment above about Schweinsteiger fucking us up? Bollocks! That's what Barry is there for!
Just hope the pitch is good
Wow that ghana-us game was intense
I told u so... I can even envisage Ghana in the semi
Nah uruguay should easily beat ghana
FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >:O
WOW we just got raped, I am all for technology now in the world cup
yeah but technology doesnt help a team that sucks... simple math shows that 4 also > 2. in ur face UK
