Were you guys hardos in high school?

I'd say most people successful in high finance were hardos in high school, unless they went to a top private school, in which case all of them were hardos in high school.

I was a hardo in high school and so were all the guy bankers I knew. The girls weren't hardos, they were those braindead sluts, but landed a seat anyways because daddy's rolodex and good looks.

For athletics yes, but not really anything else. Graduated with an ok GPA from both HS and Uni, top marks in exams (less reliable on HW/showing up). Sadly in HS I cared way less because it was free and the material was mostly boring. I messed around with one of my national exams and just bubbled in dicks, wrote a note to my professor who I knew was one of the national graders and did confirm the following semester they'd received it. Chess and anime clubs for the brief afternoon periods between sports and class I was free, had 0 interest in any of the student gov, model UN or any of that boring stuff. Also did some business on the side. Definitely a nerd who just happened to also be in good shape, didn't even discover the finance career path until halfway through college.

I've always enjoyed board games and Cowboy Bebop was and still is my #1. I have met multiple people in my industry who feel similarly so it worked out!

No. Dead last in my HS class.  Guy who was two years below me who I told this to at our last Nasdaq launch was a bit shocked. (The number of letters after our names would keep the Campbell's Alphabet Soup factory busy for weeks)

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

Could we get a write up on this? "Dead Last in High School Class -> Nasdaq Launch"... Genuinely curious

It's less cool than you think... The HS was good enough that it didn't matter where you placed.

Fully agree w you. On the same token, hopefully I'm well off enough as a parent to tell my child to do what makes him happy and truly find himself. Having aspirations as an investment banker as a 15-18 year old is just sad.

Was definitely not a try hard at all. Literally got C's on most of my science classes because I knew it was pointless and I never found it interesting. I did well in classes like english and social studies. Very involved in some EC's and for standardized tests I did okay. GPA was like flat 90ish or so and I'm at a BB now.

I guess semi hardo. I studied diligently enough to get good grades but not hard enough to rank #1.  I liked playing sports much more than school.
