What do you prefer the most when planning a holiday stay, comfort or peace?

People travel with different expectations. For some, a great vacation means luxurious rooms, delicious food and all the modern amenities that make life easier. For others, it's a chance to isolate yourself in a peaceful environment, breathe in fresh air and enjoy nature. Many places try to offer a mix of both, but we still have different preferences. Think about your last trip. Did you enjoy it more because of the amenities you got or the peaceful environment around you? Share your thoughts, your experience may inspire someone's next vacation plan.

I don't like to doss around on holiday. Never been much of a chill on the beach and read a book person. Like to have itineraries and have the day packed with events

Much prefer to see and do nice things.. City breaks over beach resorts. Would rather go into Rome, Paris etc. and absorb as much high culture as possible

Those aren't really diametrically opposed ideas. Plenty of the trips I've been on have been simultaneously luxurious, with delicious local food, peaceful, and yet still fun and adventurous.

When planning a holiday stay, preferences often depend on individual priorities. Based on the most helpful WSO content, travelers have shared diverse experiences:

  1. Comfort and Luxury: Some users highlighted destinations like Ibiza (Ushuaïa on the beach) and the Amalfi Coast, where luxurious accommodations, great food, and modern amenities were key to their enjoyment. These places cater to those who value indulgence and convenience.

  2. Peace and Nature: Others emphasized the importance of tranquility and natural beauty. For instance, Iceland was praised for its stunning landscapes and serene environment, while Goa offered peaceful beaches and family bonding moments.

  3. A Blend of Both: Destinations like Prague and Munich during Oktoberfest or Budapest provide a mix of vibrant activities and opportunities to relax, appealing to those who seek balance.

Ultimately, whether you prioritize comfort or peace, the best choice depends on what rejuvenates you most. If you're inspired by these experiences, consider what aligns with your current needs—be it luxury, serenity, or a mix of both.

In most instances, I prefer going on vacation during fall / winter type of weather and to cities / region with a lot of history.

In my 20s, an all-inclusive beach resort trip sounds awesome with single friends or other couples (Cancun, Jamaica etc.) but not so much now since I significantly cut back my drinking and everyone now has more responsibilities as a husband/wife/father/mother etc.
