What job field do you want to eventually be in after IB analyst?
It sounds like there are a lot of exit opportunities after the analyst gig in IB. I want to ask: what field do you want to eventually be in long term?

Do people ever move from ib to corporate banking or markets?
Someone in my group went to equity capital markets desk
Woo!
Yes - ppl from sweaty groups at my bank go to ECM/DCM for chiller life style after their AN stint
ECM/DCM sometimes, actual markets (S&T) groups no. Corp banking rarely - at many groups this is a 15-20% discount on hours for a much bigger discount on pay.
People rarely want to stay at a big bank at all, let alone in an adjacent group that is still working significant hours. The amount of inefficiency and headaches involved with a 200k+ employee organization is huge.
How about business school?
Usually see people go back into ib, pe, tech and consulting afterwards
Wouldn't make sense to go IB analyst -> right to business school. You can't get into PE without prior experience pre b-school, and even back to IB you would be in the exact same Aso role you could have just gotten without bschool.
Still a common exit after 2 years of PE, although less common every year
I thought a lot of people wanted to go to HF
I hardly know anyone who wanted the HF track and I went to a target then top BB. You make marginally more than PE gigs with the same YOE but it’s a much more stressful job with way less job security. Doesn’t make any sense for those who want a long and fruitful career.
If you’re in love with markets, that’s a different story. But most people aren’t.
Career change to education
Business school or another grad school?
Want to teach middle school
Probably some vertical of tech, VC or corporate
How often do investment banking analysts to go VC after? I haven’t seen too many people go there maybe only 1 or 2 people
Admittedly for early stage VC they do prefer ex-entrepreneurs/founders more, but a good amount of analyst that want to work in VC will end up in VC. Most do not and that’s usually why you’re seeing fewer IB backgrounds
Lol why are so many people interested in going to pe?
Most similar skill set and responsibilities?
Because everyone else is
Top LO AM is the dream
They should have told us about these opps back in uni
Could you give a brief of LO AM? Seen it on here a few times and not sure what it is (can deduce the benefits are in still maintaining a great salary + much better hours)
Stay at home dad
Single + Multi-Family residential real estate investing
Doing LO AM investing must be great. What are interviews like?
Interesting - everyone still wants to work in pe / vc lol
Damn only 7% want to stay in IB. Out of my 30 analyst class that's 2 people being there for VP and upwards
less competition haha
LO AM but landing a seat is TOUGH. Wish I started here ngl
Exit to vp at a middle market, 45 hour weeks
valid strat. I'm just gonna stay at my MM and do the same tbh maybe PE but I'm just gonna do whats best for Work/Life balance at the time
