One person I'm familiar with went to a complete nontarget (think San Diego State University) and got a job right out of college with a starting pay of $1.4 million in a low COL city in Texas. He was surrounded by great mentors and for one year his group was the undisputed best at what they did. The guy has won numerous accolades and now makes around $20 million guaranteed. It was such a good job because he loves what he does and the work itself is very rewarding for him. Very humble guy and I couldn't be happier for him.

I’m a fun guy. Obviously I love the game of basketball. I mean there’s more questions you have to ask me in order for me to tell you about myself. I'm not just gonna give you a whole spill... I mean, I don't even know where you're sitting at

"Kawhi Anthony Leonard" a complete nontarget (think San Diego State University)

Very specific..

This response has gone over way too many people’s heads to the point where people have PM’d me asking what role my friend got. Before thinking along this line, compare the description of “my friend/acquaintance” with my username

The fact that people actually PMd you in a serious manner, is indicative of how far WSO has fallen.

What is he doing?

When I was 15 I played for a year in the academy of a top european club in seria a (milan, inter, napoli esque) and it was the worst year of my life. The amount of desperate africans and south americans ready to break your leg because they came from nothing and were trying to make it was insane. Our coaching was bad, and I never got to play because the coach didn't like foreigners (which was stupid since the youth team was like almost all african and french algerian) despite me being one of the better left backs/the only person with the tactical understanding to play as a bombing wingback as well.

Ultimately I saw the writing in the wall. I wasn't good enough, and more importantly I didn't want it bad enough....some guys there were hoping to get a 2k a week contract and be the primary breadwinners of their entire extended family... Coming from a well to do family I didn't have the internal combustion and drive required, and was never going to have it ever. Not attacking you or anything, but I have never met an athlete who thinks their job is as cool as non-athletes think it is. Fucking 97% of pros in any sport are in their positions because of luck and good fortune. Sure Messi and Lebron would have made it regardless, but most others wouldn't.

Anyways sorry for going off topic lol. Your comment hit a fucking nerve in my head. People always assume playing sports at a high level is something that's awesome and cool, but I really fucking think otherwise.

"thexfactor336" I went to a school that had big time athletics programs: some of my friends and classmates got drafted into the NBA, NFL, and NHL. Highly envious of them, they truly have the coolest jobs

Yeah this is exactly what I was thinking.

I love the competitive aspect of sport. To be paid for it and have fun with killer teammates and friends must be like no other.

Likewise, I know some that didn't get drafted but were starters who now work for ESPN and the like. Also a cool job.

One guy I know created a video game rental company in the 90's or early 2000's right out of college and sold it for several million dollars.

The guys who go to Citadel out of undergrad and make 250k in Chicago. I’d lease a Cullinan haha.

First-year analysts at Citadel straight out of undergrad don't make $250K.

Know a guy who went to a top quant shop and makes fucking bank. Like puts me to absolute shame. Honestly the chillest dude too, totally humble about it. Seems like he'd be a good fit anywhere--not surprised they hired him. He doesn't know if he wants to do it long term and said he might want to go work for a non-profit, since money isn't that important to him (he doesnt place a huge emphasis on money and doesnt need to cus his family is like big time old money rich).

My girlfriend is graduating with an engineering degree and just took a job as a technology consultant with a big US based technology company. They offered her 80k base plus a 5k signing bonus and will earn a bonus after her first year as well. Here comes the kicker.. she will be in a training program for the first 9 months where she will be allowed to work from home 2-3 days per week. Also in a low COL city. Can someone remind me why I went into finance again?

Straight out of school? Sabermetrician at Elias Sports Bureau. Not straight out of school, but I also know a guy with a daily show on ESPN.

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

How has no one asked what the metrics are that define "sweet"? Is it a concentration of glucose? The dextrose to maltrose balance? This is a stupid fucking question with out anyway to define the parameters.

As someone who works on the business side in tech, I wouldn't want to work as an engineer (or with engineers) all day every day even if they tripled my pay.

From the sound of it I'm sure they wouldn't want to work with you either.

I work as an analyst for a Healthcare company that does significant HC IT work, and I never understood this viewpoint. Sure there are many fucking wierdos in software but not all of them were that asperger-esque. Was your experience different?

Working on Capital Hill or D.C. in general right out of school can be pretty cool. The pay is really low, but you can be already ghost-writing speeches and press releases for Congressmen at 22 years old if you're good at it. Your work can literally be on CNN tomorrow so kind of neat for a young kid.

"Macro Arbitrage" those nerds at citadel and so-called fangs don't come close to these people below who cleared high six, seven or even eight figures right out of school.

head of data science at a top hedge fund founder of a seed stage vc fund that has been killing it founder of hedge fund which has been doing incredible pure macro prop gig at a bb 15y ago that killed it during the crisis (despite dropping out of a 'semi-target') analyst at a macro fund that directly reports to the CIO (one of the few funds posting consistent double digits) sole trader at a family office that made a large investment in crypto just before the big run-up insta model with sponsorships (ex gf)

Aside from your ex gf, they didn't make that straight out of school. Also, how do you know how much they make?

I hate the thinking here that it is all about money, on one hand I get it, everyone wants to be a millionaire and money should always be a major thing. On the other hand, I do not think money should be the only thing itself, there have to be other factors involved.

Some of my friends work 80+ hours a week and are miserable doing so because outside of money, the work is soul sucking, stressful, and impacting their lives.

In my view, the sweetest job would fit the following standards:

  • Pay is good (80k+ at least)

  • You have quality coworkers you can go out to drinks and socialize with

  • You get perks that actually help with your life outside of work in a social way (access to cool events, cool connections, travel experiences, stay at nice hotels, etc.)

  • You get to meet quality awesome people as a result of your work instead of cut and dry people

  • Since we are guys, you get the added benefit of meeting some top tier women as a result of what you do

In other words, that is how high the bar is with sweetest. How many jobs like this exist? Who knows?

One of my friends got a corporate role for a fashion company, gets to go to events on company budget and is constantly surrounded by fun, quality, and pretty people as a result.
