What’s With the Search Function?

Seriously what’s going on with the search function on this site? It has to be the most useless one I’ve seen: the results yielded are more often than not completely unrelated to the query

Is there something I’m missing?

I think the reddit one is generally better than WSO's, but agreed on Google search + WSO. The native search function doesn't work well imo

Do search on google and put WSO on end

This really just shows how spoiled we are by Google's search algo. I'm sure 80% of kids on this site don't remember a world before Google, but search was a notoriously difficult problem to solve, and solving it is the reason Google is one of the biggest tech firms to date.

One of the tricks of Google let's you actually search WSO from their site. Type in "site:wallstreetoasis.com XYZ" and it will returns results for XYZ but only with urls that start with wallstreetoasis.com. Same thing for reddit, btw, and you can sort by subreddit by expanding the url i.e. "site:reddit.com/r/financecareers XYZ", etc.

Thanks for the feedback... Can you give us an example. We may have messed it up inadvertently more recently with some tweaks although I'll say we do struggle to yield solid results across a wide variety of query types.

As someone who studies natural language processing, making a search engine is significantly more difficult than making an online forum.
