When should you start looking for internship housing?

Just signed an offer for 2023 summer internship in NYC. When should I start looking for a place to live during my internship? When I was looking for accommodations for my internship this past summer around this time I got a lot of landlords telling me that I was reaching out too early since they wanted to see if they could fill their space with a long term tenant first before renting out to me.

Staylor are you in AEM? Anyway, have you tried universities like NYU, FORDHAM and COLUMBIA for Summer Housing? Most schools are trying to get some money out of their vacant dorm rooms and rent to summer interns like yourself. Get in touch with the housing offices at those schools- you might be able to save yourself a bundle. Not sure if you are a in AEM, but it is an awesome school.

Unlikely you're going to find a short term rental on Streeteasy or the like. Pretty much no landlords will accept a short term rental for somewhere advertised for long-term in NYC. Also kind of impossible for you to furnish a short-term place in NYC. Many buildings ban this type of short term sublet.

If you're not doing NYU housing (I recommend that, but understand not everyone wants to live in dorms) I'd join the NYU/NYC sublet groups on FB and post a sublet ISO for your dates. Doubt you'll get anything this early. Some may start to sublet as they firm up summer plans elsewhere, think Feb or March
