As a child: James Bond and/or my Dad

As an adolescent: I have no idea. Probably an athlete or musician.

As an adult: Gerald Hines and a variety of older mentors in my industry. As an adult, having a mentor is far more important than having a role model though.

As a child: My dad (and mom, idk why this is restricted to just the dudes).

As an adolescent: Same, with the addition of my high school football coach and one of my friends on the team (crazy work ethic, still one of my closest friends today).

In college: Same (minus my coach, but I still remember all he taught me), one of my professors who is very successful in the industry, a couple industry guys who helped me a ton and still keep in touch today, and a very high ranking general who is a close friend of my fathers.

Today: Same again. In the industry, nobody specific. I learn more from people I actually know than people I read about. Sure guys like Dalio, Milken, Jamie, etc have done a lot and in their own ways are good people to learn from, but I don't really see any of them as role models.

One other person worth mentioning that doesn't fit the standard list is one of my best friends who passed away almost three months ago. He was the kindest, friendliest person I knew. I remember him being quietly jealous when me and my other friend (same one mentioned above) were deep in internship recruiting junior year. He didn't get one, but managed to break into consulting after graduation. He hated it and went to work on a commune abroad a few months later. Idk, but his willingness to just say fuck it and get out and experience the world in the way he wanted to almost made the jealousy flip for me. I wanted to do that too, but just never could. As I look back, I realize I always kinda looked up to him. Not in a professional sense, but just for his love for literally everyone and love for life itself. I like to think he died happy, in a place he truly found himself. Since he passed, I really look up to him even more. He was truly my closest friend for (only) ten years, but I think I'll be learning from him for the rest of my life. Sad but true.
