Why can't I buy options at "market value?"
My brokerage platform won't let me bid under a certain amount and when I buy in its own range. the value of the call options is shown as substantially less than what I paid for. I bought a few contracts and BAM! i'm down $360 ffs. it doesn't help that the underlying then tanks immediately.
Because the spreads are usually too big on many contracts.
Most contracts don't get much volume actually. If you want to buy at a "fair value", you'll have to wait it until someone takes your bid or purchase options with lots of order activity.
