Your workout drinks
What do you drink when you workout and do you take a pre workout?
I like Nitraflex Watermelon for a pre and then some type of diluted Gatorade on ice.

I work out first thing in the morning - been trying to hit 5:30a. It's honestly the only part where I know I'll have time. I couldn't work out in the afternoon due to unpredictable hours and the other errands/chores that come with life.
Before I work out, I eat a banana and sip on a lemon-lime Gatorade (best flavor, sorry) mixed with preworkout. My current go-to is Legion Pulse, I really like the fruit punch flavor. It's expensive ($40 per tub IIRC) but I've found that it gets me going well. Too much beta-alanine in preworkout makes me feel jittery and itchy and can ruin my entire workout. I actually like to finish it before I head downstairs to the gym, and just drink plain water while lifting.
I think that the postworkout meal is the most important. A good habit would be to make it before bed and put it in the fridge, but I'm too tired most of the time to do that. I have a power smoothie - Greek yogurt, banana, handful of frozen berries, peanut butter, oats, a scoop-and-a-half of whey, and top it off with whole milk. It does wonders and is pretty much my only breakfast unless I grab a protein bar or something on the way out as well.
I like Legion's 'Recharge' as well, usually, I bundle it in a separate drink or add it to my smoothie. I think 95% of supplements are bullshit and make you spend money - in my personal opinion, the only things that one needs are whey protein and creatine. Everything else can help, but I don't think it's cost-effective for the performance you get. Recharge, however, has done wonders for me in terms of recovery after the workout. It adds the creatine in itself so I don't have to buy monohydrate or HCL in a separate container. Once I've done those, it's time to shower and drink the morning coffee as I head to work!
I love talking health/supplements/vitamins so if anyone has any recommendations let me know. Again, I think most supplements are cash grabs but would be curious to see if anyone has had something that's worked well for them.
Lemon lime is good. Probably top 3 flavor for me.
Rich Piana (RIP) always talked about how good real food is for you. My nutritionist says the same thing.
The only supplements I take is a Vega all in one shake with water sometimes and also 10,000 IU of D3 daily or 20,000 IU on hard days.
That’s a lot of D3 - I take 5,000 a day and try to get outside as much as I can
If you want a wild arm or chest pump, “Ghost pump” is the way. I’m not sure if it actually gives me that extra rep or whatever it claims, but nitric oxide pumps blood into the muscles and makes you feel massive
Totally agree that you only really need whey and creatine - I also take ashwagandha and swear by it. Could be placebo, but it has amped up my muscle gains, energy, libido, and endurance.
Where do you get your ashwaganda from and how much do you take? Saw Huberman talking about it along with Tongkat Ali
A black coffee and I'm good to go brother
A lot of people drink their coffee preworkout. I just can't do it personally - the caffeine isn't the issue, it's really the acid in my stomach and if I'm doing anything cardio (ew) or calisthenics-related then I can feel it bouncing around.
I find that making sure I'm hydrated beforehand (drinking like 1-2 cups of water right after waking up), and then having some coffee a little later (probably like 20-30 min later) gets that queasiness factor down, and no bouncy feeling. But tbh the only reason I don't do preworkout in the morning before workouts is bc I like to intermittent fast, so anything like preworkout would break my fast.
Are you a WSO employee/contractor?
I drink water and cocoa. I'm weenie so I don't need any special pre or post work out drinks
haha no 😂
Pure H2O
Same, just water. I weened myself off of caffeine. I try to avoid synthetic stuff, but I also don't workout as long as some of the people in this thread.
Take Magnitude life sciences black energy pre workout and you will PR everyday
Hahaha this looks fun - maybe I will try it. It seems banned now - do you still take it? I would try 1/2 scoop first probably.
Strongest pre-workout to exist. 1/2 scoop and you're feeling the tingles. But yeah, it's banned but gorilla mode energy is similar if you want something crazy. Otherwise, any regular pre-workout is the same as most brands.

Thanks!
Glad someone is on the GAT Sports grind. Local Connecticut product that I exclusively use as my pre workout. Nothing stacks up to it
Hell yeah bro
Salt and caffeine are the best pre workout.
beta alanine and citruline malate also work.
Also I make sure to get a decent amount of carbs and protein before my workout, since i do weightlifiting primarly.
When I am bulking I take eaa's and some carbs during my workout,
/
I started doing it because of John Meadows, bit of a legend in the bodybuilding world.
Here is the video that explains his reasoning behind Eaa's and carbs during workout.
Why would you eat before you work out? You lose energy when you're body is trying to digest the food.
You ever lifted on an empty stomach? Usually fine, but I’ll start to get that stitch in my side if it’s been 12+ hours and I haven’t eaten anything and I’m exercising hard
Pure Saliva.
Hydration is for the weak
Honestly sold on the Jocko Go line. I like the pre workout and energy drinks. Reading the ingredients, they seem to be better than 90% of stuff on the market. Hate the way the protein tastes and is too expensive compared to other good options so haven’t added that yet.
a pure protein bar, a coffee after and then we liftin
just protein snack. instead of pre-workout I use music - motivates more than any external chemical.
WATER
I do use protein isolate and creatine after the workout but that's just part of the daily calories intake and a quick way to refill.
Nitraflex is garbage. There's no creatine or Betaine in the powder. I would say the most important pre-workout ingredients are Creatine, Betaine, Beta-Alanine, and Citrulline Malate.
Check out the below, they have stim-free(no caffeine) or caffeinated options.

nice - thanks
I just posted but it disappeared. Yeah Nick Bare is the man. He did the Leadville 100 which is insane. Adam Klink tried it and got 87 miles. Nick is the epitome of being able to keep muscle and do a lot of cardio. He has the ideal body it seems.
I like the Ryse Godzilla. Its 400mg of caffeine which is pretty insane and the pump is super joocy
Gorilla Nitric and 1/4-1/2 scoop of Gorilla Mode + some creatine
