About to meet partners at a PE firm then put on hold - what does this mean?

Progressed to a final round at a private equity firm, completing the modelling test and meeting all the team in New York. In the most recent round, I interviewed with the partners in NY and then heard back that feedback was positive and they wanted me to meet with a couple of other partners in their other office (the most senior NY partner told me during the interview that the next stage would be for me to meet the partners in the other office and he would provide his feedback and get them setup).

Recruiter told me this was the final stage and I was the only candidate at this stage (also told me I was the only candidate at the prior stage meeting with the partners in NY). 24 hours after hearing I had passed the last round and them asking when I was available the next day for the next round, they tell the recruiter that the meetings wont actually happen that day and to put on hold for now.

Does anyone know what this might mean? The uncertainty is killing me and wanted to see if anyone had been in a similar situation
