Apollo FIG

Just wondering if this posting was PE or something else. Is FIG and Strategy the same as that FIG PE?? What are the comps like for this position (Says 90-110 but doesn't banking at a BB pay the same?) Which one would you guys choose for early career

Based on the most helpful WSO content, FIG (Financial Institutions Group) roles can vary significantly depending on the firm and the specific team. If the posting is for Apollo and mentions FIG, it could be related to their private equity (PE) strategy focused on financial institutions, but it might also involve other areas like strategy or advisory work. FIG PE typically involves investing in or acquiring financial services companies, while FIG strategy could lean more towards consulting or internal strategic roles.

Regarding compensation, if the posting mentions $90-110k, it seems more aligned with entry-level roles outside of traditional private equity, as first-year PE associates at top firms like Apollo generally earn significantly more. For example, Apollo's first-year associate compensation is reported to be around $395k, which is much higher than the $90-110k range mentioned. On the other hand, bulge bracket (BB) investment banking analyst roles typically pay in the range of $168k for first-year analysts, as per the latest WSO data.

For early career decisions, if you're comparing a FIG role at Apollo (assuming it's not PE) versus a BB banking role, the choice depends on your long-term goals: - If you're aiming for private equity or hedge fund exits, BB investment banking might provide a more traditional and structured path. - If the Apollo FIG role is indeed PE-focused, it could be a unique opportunity to break into private equity early, though you should confirm the specifics of the role.

Ultimately, understanding the exact nature of the FIG role at Apollo is crucial before making a decision.

Congrats. How are you studying and preparing for the interview? What FIG/General PE technicals are you studying? Also, do you have any resources other than the videos?

AFAIK from other WSO posts (there are like 3-4 on FIG Apo) this guys are the “Apollo of Apollo”

I think they oversee both strategic acquisitions for the company (think Atlas deal) as well as for Apollo Funds (PE, hybrid, etc). Again, I do NOT work there but is what I recall from other posts. Overall seems like a solid opportunity in terms of exposure as well..

FIG teams are generally hell on earth. Brutal work life, team usually exclusively aspe savants who chew glass and shit dry wall screws.

Apollo, unabashedly tough culture, lifestyle and people. Work like absolute dogs throughout levels, super sharp elbowed money grubbers, lethally toxic politics.

Apollo FIG all of those things combined, plus team reports into Marc Rowan so every single request/deal/science experiment is executed to perfection before it faces a slow tortured death. Pretty sure they also hired a bunch of ex-Sr FIG Bankers into the team who are so thrilled to have gotten plucked out of the banking wasteland late in their careers that they’ll lay down in the street and die for Apollo.
