Ares Management Direct Lending Case Study

Hi,

I have a case study round with Ares Management in direct lending group. I was informed it will be a 3-4 hour round. Can any one help me with what sort of case study I can expect for direct lending

I think you get 2 hours to go through the a CIM, build an LBO from blank excel with no assumptions provided, and a few page presentation. Goal should be to express would you invest in the business and why, and where in the capital structure would you invest. Highlight proposed capital structure, pay down, IRR for both the debt and equity, investment considerations, risks, and key further diligence points. Get 1-2 hours to present in front of a "committee" of people and they will ask you questions about the business, investment thesis, model assumptions etc etc. pretty standard run of the mill process tbh. Once you get passed this they'll put you in front of a few partners as final round. Hope this helps.

What does IRR for debt really entail?

Are you looking at what the interest payment inflows over the years, or for instance lets assume PIK Debt is at 12% and the Company does not pay down any debt. Would the IRR not just be 12%?
