A couple months into the FOF scene and I can truly say it’s the worst decision I’ve ever made .
WLB is decent but you’re still working till 8-9 most days
The work is mind numbingly boring, using GP Materials and editing a couple words.

FoF is the dream
Oh how naive you are….
WLB leverage only gets better with seniority and comp is far better than traditional corp gigs. If you don’t give a shit about intellectual stimulation and just wanna coast… that’s the place to be. Work to live not live to work.
And 99.9% FoF have co invest platforms and are venturing into secondaries. You can still do some good work. But have a life. Also FoF you’re prettiest girl at the prom all the funds are wining, dining and 69ing you for your check book
What’s comp like for FoF?
Would you rather have intellectual stimulation or a full head of hair at 30?
It's just a trade-off that works for some people and doesn't for others. Like others said, you still have access to very smart people (my boss's boss will respond to you 100x faster than they'd respond to me) and can find a way to make this interesting through exploring new strategies, co-invests, secondaries, etc...
Not that much incremental intellectual stimulation in directs either. Enjoy your life outside of work
Issue is I’m doing banking hours -5~ per week for a 30%~ pay cut
What are you doing that requires that much time?
FoF blows at the junior level (my experience in particular was making like 50% of banker pay at 80% of banker hours) but it definitely seems like FoF is paradise as a senior.

Sounds like you need a better FOF. There are plenty where you can work 9-5.
A primary FoF working until 8 or 9 pm makes no sense.
Quit FoF and get into WoW
Dumb question: is FoF PE?
You’re buying stakes in new PE funds (Primaries) as a LP or buying existing stakes from LPs (Secondaries)
Yes it is PE but take it with a grain of salt
Doing it wrong - most proper FoF are like 9-6pm and make like LMM to even MM PE comp - I'd leave and go find a better shop
if you're working till 8/9 as a FoF, you're doing it wrong.
