Axium Infrastructure?

Question

Just wanted to see what is the opinion out there about Axium Infrastructure in Canada. I know they have offices in montteal, Toronto, NY and cater more to mid market transactions. They seem to have increased their AUM by 10x over the last decade.

What’s their reputation like? Any insights on culture/comp?

It's hard to stack these two shops against each other because they are so different. I'll give you some things to think about which can hopefully help guide your decision.

Industry focus: Like already mentioned, Axium's mandate is pretty heavily focused on North American power - expect to evaluate a ton of renewables deals. I wouldn't say this is a bad thing as there is a ton of deal activity in US renewables right now. Renewables deal activity looks like it's pretty dried up in Canada for the time being due to a mix of political and strategic factors.

On the PSP infra front, I'm a bit worried about a recent article I read on IJGlobal about their team loosing a serious number of members. Any insights on that?

Sorry I don't have any first hand information that would be helpful. I saw your post below and if you're choosing between these two for an internship, the factors you may want to prioritize may differ versus someone in a FT spot. PSP has a structured internship program whereas I'm not sure Axium does - I could be wrong. Also, if your intent is to lateral to something better for FT, Axium isn't as well known as PSP outside of Infra so you may want to consider brand. I've seen quite a few people intern at PSP and land pretty interesting banking/investing roles FT. Just a thought.

Great points, thanks! I'm doing a second degree now and already did IB, so not too worried about exit ops at this point. I'm more interested in the people factor (which is super difficult to measure) and conversion rate to FT. It seems Axium converted their last intern (and I think they only got one) to FT, it also seems they will only have one intern this summer.

For PSP, I'm worried about conversion rate. They run internships year long so feel like it will be another competition just to get a FT. Plus, I find worrisome that out of +30 people, 6-9 left in the last couple of months...
