Blackstone Undergraduate Interview
Hi, I was curious if anyone could provide insight on their personal experiences when interviewing at Blackstone as an undergraduate? The interview I have is specifically for a summer internship next year but any advice is welcome.
General questions I have: - What groups did you interview for? - What kind of questions did you get? - Format of the interview? (Case study, LBO modeling, etc.) - Any advice for someone preparing for the interviews?

That's cool, you must be at a target school then. I haven't tried it yet but prof Chris Haraoun (last name maybe incorrect) does udemy videos on this stuff. There is also a gold mine of books an sites on the internet.

I'm at a target in the UK but it doesn't have the Blackstone thing, anyway good luck mate, hope it works out well. I suggest the most important thing is to show your passion in theory an also being practical
Blackstone has a Female Leadership programme for first and second years in London :)
Also want to hear if someone heard anything. How do they look at undergrads without any IB/consulting experience? If you check LinkedIn, most interns have at least one summer of experience...

Summer Analyst - Blackstone Technology M&A - Phone Interview (Originally Posted: 01/21/2011)
Hey guys. I have a phone interview for a Summer Analyst position with Blackstone Technology M&A practice next week and was wondering if anyone has interviewed with them or can provide some advice. What types of questions should I expect (fit, technical, brainteaser)?
I've used the Search function, but didn't find anything too relevant for my situation. I did read that BX seeks candidates with strong finance backgrounds, which is why they regularly recruit at Wharton. I'm at a non-target but consider myself strong in finance (3.97 cumulative GPA and 2 finance related gigs), especially with regards to most of the technical questions one can expect in investment banking interviews. I also heard from a friend who interviewed in their NY office that they like to ask a bunch of math questions that put you on the spot. I'm not too worried about this as I'm pretty good with mental math and problem solving.
Also, when asked about why I want to do Tech, what are some good answers? I'm interested in technology and M&A, which makes this opportunity perfect, but I'd be next to useless if you asked me to describe the relationship between different parts of a computer, for example. I just try and keep up with Tech news and read up on deals on DealBook.

Can't tell you anything specific, but you said you're really interested in tech, so if they ask you why, telling them why you're interested in tech shouldn't be too hard.
i got asked straight brainteasers and two fit questions on the phone a while ago, dunno if that's how they still roll. very brainy group, so i wouldn't be surprised if they asked tough technicals instead now.

For which office were you interviewing?
Hey, I have first rounds coming up for the Tech Advisory Analyst position. Is this position completely different than Tech M&A?
I think it depends on the person. I interviewed with them and the Boston guy was very standard ... what are comps, what are pros and cons of them, why Blackstone, why Boston, why Tech, etc. Could greatly depend though, and I've heard BX likes accretion/dilution and heavy accounting questions too

The Menlo office has a bunch of Citi guys I think, on all levels. Haven't noticed them doing anything major lately, but that doesn't mean they didn't; maybe there hasn't been much front-page news-worthy deal activity. Last thing I heard was the Yahoo / MSFT thing and even that wasn't really deal..
That's because BX bought out the Citi tech team.
How did the phone interview end up going?
We spoke for about thirty-five minutes and I thought it went really well. They just started the process and so there's nothing left but to wait and hope.
