Blowing off an obnoxious headhunter - Lesson learned

I received probably ~10 phone calls from a particular recruiter over a 6 month period and every time he would hype me up and talk about how great a fit I was for the job, etc. etc and then I would never hear back. Every time he would ask for my resume (even if the calls were two weeks apart) as if he had lost the last one I sent him. Not a single interview materialized and all my follow-up e-mails / calls to see what they thought about my resume went unanswered.

The last time he called me was about a year ago, and again - a perfect job for my background, no way they won't interview you, etc. I literally took the call for the sole reason of going off on this guy and asking him why he never followed up with me about any of the jobs, but at the last minute decided to just hear him out.

I ended up getting the job (PE backed company which sold in the last 6 months) with a nice piece of equity which ended up being worth more than I have made on a cumulative basis (bonus, salary, 401k, etc.) since I graduated college (2009).

Simple lesson is - yeah, recruiters can be annoying as hell, but no harm in hearing them out - particularly if they are from a good shop.
