book/newsletter recs for learning about healthcare (investing)?

my work experience has been in TMT/I have zero knowledge of healthcare, but want to learn more about healthcare (and healthcare investing) both for building more personal knowledge around the american healthcare system and to prep for potentially recruiting for healthcare PE roles. Does anyone have any recommendations for books, newsletters, websites, other sources of information? thanks!

Based on previous WSO threads, here are some recommendations for learning about healthcare and healthcare investing:

Books:

  1. "The Business of Healthcare Innovation" by Lawton Robert Burns - This book provides a comprehensive overview of the healthcare industry, focusing on the innovation and business aspects.
  2. "The Innovator's Prescription: A Disruptive Solution for Health Care" by Clayton M. Christensen, Jerome H. Grossman, and Jason Hwang - This book offers insights into how disruptive innovation can transform the healthcare industry.
  3. "Redefining Health Care: Creating Value-Based Competition on Results" by Michael E. Porter and Elizabeth Olmsted Teisberg - This book discusses strategies for improving the healthcare system by focusing on value-based competition.

Newsletters and Websites:

  1. NREI Online (National Real Estate Investor) - While primarily focused on real estate, it occasionally covers healthcare real estate, which can be relevant for healthcare investing.
  2. Bisnow - Another real estate-focused site that sometimes includes healthcare-related content.
  3. WSJ's Real Estate Section - The Wall Street Journal often has articles on healthcare real estate and broader healthcare industry trends.
  4. FierceHealthcare - A comprehensive source for healthcare industry news, including policy, technology, and business updates.
  5. Modern Healthcare - Offers in-depth coverage of the healthcare industry, including finance, policy, and technology.

Additional Resources:

  • Local Business Journals - Depending on your market, local business journals often have relevant information on healthcare transactions and growth.
  • Healthcare Private Equity Association (HCPEA) - Provides resources and networking opportunities for those interested in healthcare private equity.

These resources should help you build a solid foundation in healthcare and healthcare investing, preparing you for potential roles in healthcare PE.
