Call from HR after Superday at a top PE firm, is it a verbal offer? How should I follow up?
Hey guys! I might be overthinking but I'm kinda worried that I misunderstood the meaning of the HR call. It would be great to get suggestions from people with more experiences like you guys.
I did the superday at this big PE firm a week ago, it's an analyst program for new grads. The HR called me the next day and told me the interviews were smooth but didn’t explicitly say that I got the job. She asked me my preferred city and I said the preference but also flexible with both. She then said she would talk to the person who referred me and get back to me next week. I asked around other incoming analysts, the longest it took was a week for them to receive the offer letter. However, it's been almost 9 days since she called me and I still didn't receive the offer letter or either heard back from her. I emailed her last week asking when I will receive the offer letter but she didn't reply.
I also talked to my referral who said the HR might be ooo and told me to not worry and reach out to HR in a couple of days.
What do you guys think of this situation? Could the call be translated into a verbal offer? I've been really anxious and worried since the HR is not very responsive. Do you guys think I should ask the HR if I really got the job, or just assuming I've got the job and ask her when I'll receive the offer letter like what I did last time? And do you guys suggest me calling or emailing her?
Thank you guys very much!
It is a good sign, but I'm not sure how you'd interpret that as a verbal offer
I would… reach out to HR in a couple of days
Sounds like they’re behind on admin BS. If they’re asking you for location preference AFTER the SD, I’d assume you’re getting an offer. Maybe they’re just figuring out class sizes/where to put everyone based on preference.
Thank you very much! Would you suggest me following up soon or wait for another week?
If she never hit you back after you asked about the offer letter then I’d say no harm in circling back now
It sounds like an indication that an offer is coming but I wouldn’t call it an “offer” until there are $ figures discussed
Not an offer, and imo was kind of presumptive to ask when you'll receive an offer letter. I'd say it's 50/50 now given how long it's been, and that the referral didn't say that you had an offer (they know)
I'd send one more email in 3-4 days expressing your interest again and willingness to work in either location.
The referral actually said multiple times looking forward to working with me, are you sure that they would know?
Well that's positive. I'd still stay super neutral to HR and not presume you have an offer with them.
Yes the decision is made right after the superday. Especially if the referral works in that group, he/she would definitely know.
Thanks for asking the “top pe firm” detail, that’s super helpful in answering this question. Would have been able to give you an answer but you failed to also include whether you came from a “top target” as well
Ohhh sorry! I just wanna imply that it’s a big firm, so maybe less likely for them to rescind an offer once they extended. I don’t think I’ll pass the resume round if I’m not from a ta
